  1. I’m definitely in a listening slump. Earlier this week I started Silence for the Dead by Simone St James, narrated by Mary Jane Wells. It wasn’t scary, but the subject matter (how they treated the “shell shocked” patience) was grim, so I put it aside for now. It’s beautifully written and narrated, so I’ll definitely return to it someday.

I decided to go for something lighter and just finished Three’s Company by N.R. Walker, narrated by Nick Russo. Not Walker’s best work, and not Russo’s best narration. Not terrible, but definitely not the quality of Galaxies and Oceans!

    1. I just started Layla Reyne’s Dead Draw (I reviewed the book at AAR), narrated by Christian Leatherman, who is new to me, so I might review it.

I’m having problems finding stuff I want to review right now – either the books don’t sound good, I don’t like the narrators, or I DO like the narrators but can’t keep reviewing the same ones all the time!

  2. After downloading book 3 in a series (Hijinks with a Hellhound) by new-to-me author Louisa Masters just because it was available on Hoopla and was narrated by the incomparable Joel Leslie, I liked it enough to go back and see if the rest of the series was available on Scribd (yes!) and am now working my way through book 1 (Demons Do It Better). JL is in typical fine form, depicting the humor, nuance and a whole lot of accents with ease. Last week, I thoroughly enjoyed the Perfect Crimes of Marian Haynes (JL narrating again) by Cat Sebastian. These days, I only want easy listening and cozy comfort.

    1. I read and reviewed the first two books in Masters’ new series – Spirited Situation and on the basis of those, I have to say I don’t think she’s for me – too lightweight. I haven’t listened to them (Nick J. Russo has done them, and I’m sure he’s really good), but I’m not planning on continuing with that series.

i’m the opposite to you – I’ve had enough fluff the last couple of years to last a lifetime!
