Our January 2024 Picks

Welcome to AudioGals’ first Monthly Picks of 2024!  As usual, we’ve had a look through the lists of new and upcoming releases to highlight new titles we think will be of interest to our readers, and which we’re looking forward to listening to as well.  Please do drop by to tell us which new audiobooks you’re most looking forward to and let us know if we’ve missed anything that looks good!

The post this month looks a little different towards the end. Amazon has changed the way their image links work, which means that not only are practically ALL the links in our past picks posts now broken, but also that we’ve had to find another way of doing them.  It’s no longer possible to make the images themselves into links, so instead, if you’re interested in reading more about a particular title, you’ll have to click on the word “AMAZON” underneath it.  It seems as though this is going to be the way forward – but if you have any insight as to how we can do it differently and more efficiently (it’s pretty time-consuming!) please do feel free to share!

Death Eternal by Richard AmosDeath Eternal by Richard Amos

Narrated by Cooper North

This one caught my eye for two reasons – firstly, Cooper North is the narrator and secondly, positive reviews and posts about the author’s books at Nazri Noor’s Facebook group! This urban fantasy romance between a necromancer and Death himself sounds intriguing so I figured I’d give it – the first in a four book series – a try! – Caz

The Girl in the Wind by Gregory Ashe
The Girl in the Wind by Gregory Ashe

Narrated by J.F. Harding

This second book in Gregory Ashe’s amazing Iron on Iron crossover series has Theo and Auggie (The First Quarto) as its lead characters in another gritty, twisty mystery that unfolds as #Thuggie search for a missing teen – and stumble upon much more than they’d bargained for. As always in a GA novel, the relationships – romantic and friendship – are superbly written and developed, and the interactions between the four couples are simply wonderful. J.F Harding – who originally voiced Theo and Auggue in The First Quarto audiobooks-  is back in the narrator’s chair, and, after listening to him in book one, The Face in the Water, will, I’m sure, deliver another outstanding performance.  – Caz

Glitterland by Alexis Hall 2024Glitterland by Alexis Hall

Narrated by Nicholas Boulton

According to the author’s website, this new recording of Glitterland includes bonus material not previously available in audio (so if you own the older, 2016, version you’ll need to purchase this new version to obtain it). Thankfully, Nicholas Boulton – who did such an incredible job in the first version – has returned to the microphone to re-record it. I’m not familiar with the bonus material so I can’t say if it’s going to be worth buying it again, but on the other hand, extra Nicholas Boulton is never a bad thing! – Caz

The Last Stars in the Sky by Kate HewittThe Last Stars in the Sky by Kate Hewitt

Narrated by Kate Handford

A marriage in trouble and then a nuclear attack – sounds like it might be a gripping story! – Kaetrin

To Catch a Fallen Leaf by Fearne HillTo Catch a Fallen Leaf by Fearne Hill

Narrated by Richard Stranks

I listened to the first book in the series and enjoyed it, especially the narration. I’ll definitely be picking up this one. – Carrie

I’ve reviewed this one already (HERE) – it’s a charming romance full of warmth and humour expertly narrated by Richard Stranks. – Caz

The Art of Husbandry by Jay HoganThe Art of Husbandry by Jay Hogan

Narrated by Gary Furlong

A moving story of two men, one trying to overcome grief and one trying to keep his sheep station going, learning there may be a chance for love, too. I loved this in print and can’t wait to listen to Gary Furlong’s narration. – Carrie

Like Carrie, I loved this one in print. It’s a tender and emotional story set on a remote sheep station in NZ featuring two men facing very different struggles. Jay Hogan and Gary Furlong are always a winning team. – Caz

Canadian Boyfriend by Jenny Holiday

Canadian Boyfriend by Jenny Holiday

Narrated by Joshua Jackson & Emily Ellet

It’s a Jenny Holiday book so what else needs to be said? But… JOSHUA JACKSON narrating as well?? Yes! – Kaetrin

The Other Bridget by Rachael JohnsThe Other Bridget by Rachael Johns

Narrated by TBA

Australian romance set in a library? Sounds like a winner to me. – Kaetrin

What Happens at the Lake by Vi KeelandWhat Happens at the Lake by Vi Keeland

Narrated by Sebastian York and Andi Arndt

I’m always up for Vi Keeland’s contemporary romances and with Sebastian York and Andi Arndt narrating it is sure to be great title to listen to this January! – BJ

The Starter Ex by Mia SosaThe Starter Ex by Mia Sosa

Narrated by Anthony Rey Perez & Miranda Jay

I’ve enjoyed Mia Sosa books before and this one is in the Audible Plus catalogue for extra bonus points – Kaetrin

Wild Life by Opal Wei

Wild Life by Opal Wei

Narrated by Natalie Naudus

I had the pleasure of reading this one early; it’s a somewhat zany, sweet and sexy rom com. The author has also written under the name Ruby Lang. The narrator is new to me but the samples I listened to sounded very promising. – Kaetrin

All Rhodes Lead Here by Mariana ZapataAll Rhodes Lead Here by Mariana Zapata

Narrated by Amanda Ronconi and Sebastian York

Being a big fan of Mariana Zapata’s contemporary romances, I read this book when it first came out a few years ago and really enjoyed it. I’m looking forward to this new audio version! – BJ
