  1. I started the week with Grasp, the second book of The Significant Brothers series by E. Davies. It was fine, if unoriginal and a bit bland. Two likable leads and a good narration by Greg Boudreaux made it a nice, if forgettable, experience.

Then I listened to A Bone Bone by Melinda Leigh, narrated by Christine Williams. It’s the 6th installment in the novella romantic suspense series, Widow’s Island. The series is written in alternating novellas by Ms. Leigh and Kendra Elliot. I’ve read the rest in print, but they are now available on KIndle Unlimited with the Audible download for free. Christine Williams is a little stiff at times, but overall does a fine job on the narration. This wasn’t the strongest story of the series, but I enjoyed it.

Next was Murder at the Vicarage by Agatha Christie, narrated by Richard Grant. I’ve watched many Christie adaptations but haven’t read many of the books. My library has quite a few, and Chirpbooks has run sales on many Christie books so I’ve decided to remedy that by listening to them on audio. This was an entertaining mystery, the first in the Miss Marple series, and Richard Grant does a wonderful job.

Right now I’m listening to Spotlight by Eden Finley, narrated by Iggy Toma. I think I’m a little burned out of low-angst contemporary mm right now. This is a nice story with good narration (although Iggy’s character voices are similar for the leads and he isn’t always consistent, making me have to figure out who’s speaking by context), but I’m finding it too predictable. I still have a ways to go, though, so it might surprise me.

    1. I never thought I’d see YOU saying you’re burned out on low-angst romances!!! ;)

But yes, I’ve been there for a while; I’ve continued to read/listen to favourite authors who have turned to writing low conflict stories, but I’ve found a lot more to enjoy in what I’m terming “Romance And” – suspense, fantasy etc. (The Wiltshire series definitely falls into the “and” category!)

Spotlight is actually my favourite of that series, but it definitely falls into the low angst category. I don’t remember any major surprises or revelations though…

      1. I know, right? I’m sort of in a dilemma, though, because I still can’t sit through high angst/stressful books. That’s why I’m turning to straight mysteries right now as long as they aren’t too graphic. I’m also looking at “romance and…” books and having better luck there.

        1. I’m enjoying Nazri Noor’s Arcane Hearts series (I just reviewed book two, and book three is out) – they’re fun with good storylines and likeable characters. He’s written a number of UF series, although this is the first with a full-blown romance.

Have you tried Sheri Cobb South’s John Pickett historical mystery series? The narration is great (it’s Joel – duh!) – I’ve reviewed a few of them here, and I think a new one was released recently.
