  1. I’ve only finished one audiobook this week. I finished His Wicked Reputation by Madeline Hunter, narrated by Mary Jane Wells. I bought this for a few dollars on Chirp based on decent reviews, but mainly on the strength of the narrator. Wells doesn’t disappoint here. Her voice for Eva sounds just right for her personality, and Wells always does a great job with the male voices. She also evokes the humor of the writing. It’s an excellent narration. The story itself is good. It’s a romance with a mystery running in the background and even though the reader is sure to connect some of the dots very early on, it was still an enjoyable part of the book. I wasn’t super drawn in, though, which is why it took me 5 or 6 days to finish. But I’d recommend it for lovers of well narrated and well written historical romances.

Right now I’m listening to The Geek Who Saved Christmas by Annabeth Albert, narrated by Tim Paige. So far, so good, although Paige, while good, is not as strong a narrator as Joel Leslie or Greg Boudreaux.

    1. I enjoyed Geek in audio, too – look for my review next week!

I just listened to a fun Christmassy book narrated by Greg – A Very Genre Christmas by Kim Fielding, if you’re in the mood for something cute – and I’m just writing a review of my CP title (the Maslow) which was one of those unexpected surprises where I had no idea what to expect but it turned out to be pretty good!

I think I reviewed the Hunter when it came out; I liked the performance a lot, but for some reason, MJW didn’t do the other two books and I didn’t think much of the substitute.

  2. I finished listening to KJ Charles’ ‘The Gentle Art of Fortune Hunting’ and I enjoyed the narration once I’d got attuned to its speed. I’d forgotten how well-written Robin’s character is and what an absolute gem that final ball scene is!

I wanted to listen to The Geek Who Saved Christmas next, but it’s not yet available on Audible UK, so I’ve gone for Jay Northcote’s Secret Santa, narrated by Hamish Long, instead. I’m hopeful that it will fill my need for a low-angst, Christmassy story with an excellent narration!

    1. I can’t find Geek at Audible UK either – I wonder if it’s one of those that isn’t available here? Things on the geo restruction front are much better than they used to be, but there are still some audiobooks that don’t seem to come out over here. I’ll see if I can find out.

I’ve got a review of Jay Northcote’s Stuck With You running next week – I’ll have to check out Secret Santa.
