  1. I haven’t read, or listened to, N.R. Walker’s ‘Code Red’, but I’ve listened to another of her books this week. I read DEAREST MILTON JAMES last month and really enjoyed it. I loved the main characters, particularly Malachi, and thought the plot concerning some old letters was lovely, as were the misfit bunch of postal workers helping the MCs. The audibook is narrated by Glen Lloyd who I had never heard before. Well, I loved it – he totally captures Malachi’s ditzy personality and scattergun speech patterns – and it was really nice to hear the Aussie accents for a change. So funny and sweet!

I started listening to KJ Charles’ THE GENTLE ART OF FORTUNE HUNTING yesterday, but haven’t got very far into it yet. (I read it when it was first released). The narration seems really slow compared with Dearest Milton James, so I’ll see how I get on with it! I tried increasing the speed but it just sounded weird.

    1. I just listened to the Walker as well, and have submitted my review :) I may not have rated it as highly as you did, but it’s certainly a fun listen.

  2. Right now I’m listening to His Wicked Reputation by Madeline Hunter, narrated by Mary Jane Wells. It was really inexpensive a while back on Chirpbooks, so I bought it for the narrator. I needed a break from my usual fare. So far, so good. I’m a little bored, but it’s fine background for daily chores and tablet games. I am definitely enjoying Wells’ narration.

This week I listened to American Christmas by Adriana Herrera, narrated by Sean Crisden. It’s a sweet novella and it was fun to see several previous couples from the series. I love Crisden’s narration, but I wonder why he chose to change the voice for Ari, and to some extent, Yin, too. They are almost unaccented in this one.

I also listened to Right Move by A.M. Arthur, narrated by Greg Boudreaux. This one didn’t do it for me. I didn’t feel the connection between the leads and didn’t like the way Levi used stock phrases from therapy all the time. It sounded really canned.

I just finished Unfit to Print by KJ Charles, narrated by Vikas Adam. I missed the usual narrator here, but Adam did a fine job. Not my favorite one by this author, but the shorter length meant less well developed characters and story line. It was still very good and had Charles’ signature gift for blending the historical setting seamlessly into her works.

    1. I felt similarly about the therapist-speak in the Arthur book. I enjoyed the series overall, but I think that was one of the weaker instalments.

I enjoyed Unfit to Print, too – it’s the only non-Cornell Colins/MLD KJC audiobook that works, IMO; the other three Tantor put out that year have less than stellar narration, sadly :(

  3. I’m currently listening to The Charm Offensive by Alison Cochrun, narrated by Vikas Adam and Graham Halstead. I was pleasantly surprised to see it pop up as available on Scribd recently and am enjoying it as a pretty easy, comfort listen. Bit of a switch from my listen of last week which was book 2 in the Billionaire series by Alexis Hall, narrated by the incomparable Joel Leslie. As much as I enjoyed being swept into Aiden’s headspace, I needed a little break from what I’m sure will be a bit of a slog in the next and final installment of the series.
Oh and my other recent listen was “Against the Grain” in the Auckland Med series by Jay Hogan, narrated by Gary Furlong. I’m not sure why, but I had not been much of a fan of Mr. Furlong’s narration, until I ran across him in this particular series. Maybe it’s the Kiwi accents, but I have just loved the heck out of every book and his interpretation of the characters.

    1. I loved The Charm Offensive, and the narration is superb – and I’ve got Against the Grain on my TBL. IMO, Gary Furlong is one of the best romance narrators around – he’s incredibly versatile and a really good vocal actor. He’s one of my favourites – I’ve reviewed quite a lot of his work here, but I highly recommend Dal Maclean’s Bitter Legacy series if you haven’t listened to it already. It’s pretty angsty in places though, but if you’re listening to the Ardy series, I guess angst isn’t too much of a problem for you!
