  1. I am finishing up the last book in Mary Balogh’s Simply quartet. I have listened to them before and they are such a pleasure. It is like having a reunion with old friends. I love her stories which have favorite characters from her other books aiding and abetting the current protagonists. Each time I read Mary Balogh, I think to myself that I need a master list of her books to have an idea of which order to read them. But it doesn’t matter that much. They are so good.
Yes, I do all my walking, gardening and cooking and house work with an audio book in my ears!

  2. I started the week with Deal Maker by Lily Morton, narrated by Joel Leslie. Both excellent as usual. Then I listened to Pansies by Alexis Hall, narrated by Cornell Collins. Collins did an amazing job. I loved the book, although it was less humorous and more serious overall than the others by Hall that I’ve listened to. The growth that both leads went through was painful to watch at times, but overall very satisfying.

After that I listened to Beyond the Sea by Kiera Andrews. Greg Boudreaux’s narration was just perfect. I enjoyed the story, but the “I’m 40 but didn’t know I was bi” stretches credulity a little far. This felt like a gay-for-you story rather than a a story of realizing they were bi or pan or whatever. But I liked both characters a lot and thought the part on the island was well done.

Yesterday I finished up a Great Courses selection titled Forensic History: Crimes, Frauds, and Scandals with instructor Elizabeth Murray. This was more of a history of forensics over time using case studies, many famous, to illustrate both the limitations and the developments of the science. This wasn’t a scientific look at forensics in detail. I enjoyed it,even if some of it was difficult to listen to,such as the lecture on genocides. Murray has a nice voice and per presentation was very well done.

Right now I’m listening to Better Than People by Roan Parrish. James Cavenaugh is the new-to-me narrator, and so far it’s been serviceable, but not stellar.

    1. I liked Beyond the Sea quite a bit. Greg’s narration was great of course, but I though the author did a really good job of building the relationship between the guys before things turned romantic/sexy. Having known someone who didn’t realise – or at least admit – he was gay until he was in his late thirties, I didn’t have such an issue with that part of the plot.

      1. Fair enough! I’ve known several women who have left bad marriages and ended up marrying a women after that, so I know it happens.
