  1. This past week I listened to A GUY WALKS INTO MY BAR by Lauren Blakely, which I did enjoy, especially the lead narrators.

CADENZA by Stella Riley, which was a fitting end to the Rockcliffe series. I’m sorry for it to be over, but think I’ll revisit them soon.

At present I’m relistening to A CIVIL CONTRACT by Georgette Heyer. I hadn’t remembered how much there was in the last part of this book about the Napoleonic campaign leading up to Waterloo. I do love Heyer’s way of making this kind of history fascinating. This book is always bittersweet to me. It’s very emotional and Heyer doesn’t neatly tie up the ending the way my romance heart wouldlike. However, I always think they lived very happily ever after anyway.

    1. I just read and reviewed Midwinter Magic for AAR (review up this weekend) and I believe Alex has recorded it – it’s a case of making its way through the Audible queue.

A Civil Contract is a very quiet book. It’s been quite a while since I read it, but I do remember it being very understated.

      1. A Civil Contract is still one of my favorite Heyer books even though it’s a little bittersweet. I think they way she decides to portray a real marriage of convenience sits in stark relief to so many other books. We love to read about grand passion, but enduring love and contentment may mean a lot more in the long run.

  2. I’m almost done with Obama’s memoir “A Promised Land”, narrated by the author himself. It’s been a fascinating journey through events I remember well from the past, read with humor, grace and a sense of wistfulness. Definitely a book worth experiencing in audio.

On the romance front, I’m finishing up “The Boyfriend Project” by Farrah Rochon. Also went back and re-listened to some old favorites by KJ Charles like “A Seditious Affair” and “A Gentleman’s Position”. Now that Audio Escape is no more, the number of titles I’m going through has gone way down. I did spring for purchasing a copy of “A Guy Walks Into My Bar” even though I’ve already heard it, because I love both of the narrators so much.

    1. We never had AE in the UK – I’m not sure it was available anywhere outside the US. A Seditious Affair is one of my all-time KJC favourites.

      1. Yeah, KJC is just so good. A Seditious Affair is a true comfort listen for me. Silas is such a great character and Matthew Lloyd Davies’ narration is on point. I may have to go back and re-listen to more of her backlist now.
