  1. I have started listening to K. J. Charles, The Magpie Lord narrated by Cornel Collins. Really enjoying it. I have to hurry to listen to the series before Audible Escape ends October 31. I am sorry that is happening. I use it a lot. I am frantically going through my wish list!

    1. I love this series! They are so worth the time! I, too, am trying to cram in a lot of books before AE disappears.sigh.

    2. I LOVE KJ Charles’ books and Cornell Collins/Matthew Lloyd Davies is an excellent performer. I hope you manage to cram them all in – I remember listening to the final book in the trilogy in one sitting, it was that good! And if you have time to listen to Jackdaw then do (I reviewed it here if you want to check it out) – it’s set in the same universe and features a minor character from the earlier books – and we get an interesting take on Lucien, Stephen et al, too.

  2. This past week I’ve listened to All Night Long by Linda Howard. This is a reread for me and an enjoyable escape. I found I was more interested in Howard’s take on the PTSD of both leads than on the story, which I already knew.

After that I listened to Him, Us, and Epic–all by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy, and narrated by Teddy Hamilton and Jacob Morgan. I loved the series. You feel like you were truly in their heads and their thoughts feel so authentic. The books and narrations flow so smoothly. The stories are sweet and in US, so emotional! This is the difference I can rarely articulate–I love emotional stories, but I’m not a big fan of angst. Us was incredibly emotional, but felt so real and believable. It wasn’t imposed hand-wringing angst, it was gut wrenching emotional responses to believable events. I didn’t feel the author had to find some outside conflict to push on the couple. It was organic. The narrators are amazing. I don’t five 5 stars all that often, especially to contemporary books, but these were just what I needed.

I’m going to listen to Good Boy (Blake’s story) and Stay (Ericcson’s story) before they roll off AE. I don’t know what to listen to next, though. I have After Hours by Cara McKenna, The Autumn Duchess by Lucinda Brant, and Secret Sisters by JAK. Not sure what I’m in the mood for.

    1. Well, it’s good to have options! :P Another really good hockey romance is The Understatement of the Year – by Sarina Bowen (solo) and narrated by Teddy H. and Christian Fox. It’s a bit more angsty though – check out my review if you’re interested. I have no idea what’s in AE and what isn’t – we’ve never had it in the UK, so I can’t miss what I never had!

      1. One more Sarina Bowen hockey romance that is excellent is Brooklynaire. It is part of her Brooklyn Bruisers series, but works extreme!y well as a stand-alone. Zachary Webber, Virginia Rose, and Joe Hemple narrate. This story feels very organic to me, the same way Carrie describes Him/Us/Epic. These events, while very unusual, could happen. I like that our couple are both responsible grown ups trying to do the right thing, and are deeply aware of the responsibilities they each have. That makes the romance no less charming, however! The entire Bruisers series is quite good, but this is the best one imo.
