About A GUY WALKS INTO MY BAR:

A passionate, utterly addictive standalone MM romance from #1 NYT Bestseller Lauren Blakely performed with duet narration by Joe Arden and Shane East!

Every bartender should follow one simple rule—don’t go home with the customers.

That’s been easy for me to stick to, until the night a cocky, confident, and sinfully charming hockey star walks into my bar. This sexy athlete is too hard to resist, especially when he makes it clear how much he wants the “sarcastic, witty, hot AF” guy behind the bar—also known as me.

Still, I’m not keen on breaking my own rules since I know where that can lead—no place good.

But when that man makes his case with one bone-searing kiss on the streets of London, I throw resistance out the window.

What could go wrong with a hot, no-strings-attached fling before he leaves town in five days?

Trouble is, soon our nights together lead to days, to long conversations, to getting to know each other, and to something I never expected—falling ridiculously hard for a man who’s getting on a plane to America when I live a world away.

My life is here. His is there. And no amount of falling or feeling will change that one big problem.

Warning: contains hot hotel sex, loads of dirty talk, PDA all over London, and two sexy, witty, charming alpha heroes…

Performed with a full supporting cast including: Andi Arndt, Ron Butler, Jakobi Diem, Vanessa Edwin, Stella Hunter, Zachary Webber, Emma Wilder and with a cameo from Sebastian York.

  1. I was all excited reading about this until I got to the multicast part. I’ve tried a few and if there are more than about 4 narrators, the soundtrack just becomes too busy for me. It quite literally makes me jumpy.
Blakely keeps releasing these, and I just can’t warm up to them. I like sinking into the sound of a voice of two over several hours, I enjoy the mellowness of that experience. So unless this gets hugely positive professional reviews, I will probably pass. And I’m a Shaneiak, too. 😣

    1. I admit I have yet to listen to one all the way through – but I’ve listened to a few chapters here and there, and for me, the oddest thing is that it’s ‘just’ voices. I grew up listening to audio drama on the BBC, so to have a full cast but no sound effects is really weird! Like in the scene we just heard, they’re in a bar, but there’s no background noise of chatter or glasses clunking and stuff like that. I know the difference – but if you’re going to go for a whole cast thing, why not go the whole hog and make it into a full dramatic production? *shrugs*

{Yes, I know the answer to that question is probably money.]

ETA: Please, PLEASE stop referring to English accents as British accents! There are FOUR British accents – English, Scottish, Irish, Welsh. We’re British people, yes. But our accents are NOT the same. You would say that Billy Connolly has a Scottish accent, Liam Neeson has a (mostly!) Irish accent and Ruth Jones has a Welsh accent, so why not that Shane East has an English one? It’s a frequent mistake and drives me nuts.

      1. Caz, I never really thought about the Brit/English distinction much. I’m sure I have been guilty of this misidentification. I’ll pay closer attention in the future, and I thank you for pointing it out.

One of the reasons I find full cast productions annoying is the frequent presence of narrators I really don’t like. I personally prefer just one voice narrating the entire book, but I have grown used to two. One or two bit players are generally fine. More than than is just too many to keep track of.

And one of the windmills I frequently tilt at is the near disappearance of 3rd person narrative. You can be in anyone’s head at any point, even the dog’s. No need to wait for artificial chapter breaks just to switch pov. But dual first person has become the norm for modern day romance.

      2. Whenever you mention BBC radio dramas, Caz, I always think of the absolutely brilliant Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy! The TV version was such a disappointment to me….
I’m with you, of course, on the English/British accent thing. I don’t think I’ve ever heard this narrator. Does he always use the same accent……. or does he do a range? Even ‘Hailing from London’ doesn’t really tell you what his natural accent is, does it?!

        1. Wendy, I’m American, from the midwest, and my ear for English accents is not especially acute. Better than a lot of Americans, I think however.

With that in mind, Shane does a posh sounding English accent quite well, and his American accent also sounds fairly top-lofty. He does narrate books using both Scottish and Irish accents, but they are not the most convincing. I have never heard him attempt regional English accents, such as Yorkshire or Cockney, or any sort of working class accent. For me though, it’s his voice that I love. Very smooth and deep, well-modulated, and easy to understand. He is a voice actor, not just a narrator, and his use of inflection, his pacing, etc., all reflect that. I’d really like to listen to him narrate Recency/Victorian romance more. He reminds me a bit of Simon Vance or Nicholas Boulton in his vocal quality, and that type of voice suits me down to my toes in HR.

If she chooses to, Caz can give you a much more specific answer I’m certain, but those are some of the reasons I’m a Shaneiak!
