  1. I started listening to Alexis Hall’s Glitterland today whilst doing menial gardening tasks in the sunshine. (My husband’s the serious gardener!) I’m not sure that cackling so hard whilst wielding secateurs is a very good look though. I read the Spires series for the first time last week and especially loved Glitterland and am finding it even better on audio.

    1. I agree, Glitterland is fantastic and Nicholas Boulton is amazing in it. I reviewed the audio of Pansies here earlier this week, and can strongly recommend it, too :)

      1. Well, I’ve finished listening to Glitterland now. It thought it was superb, and I really love it on those few occasions when you find that an excellent narration adds even more to an already excellent book! I lived and worked in Estuary Essex 1980-2015 and I think that Nicholas Boulton did an amazing job to get the Essex accents spot-on, whilst also capturing Ash’s tumultuous inner life brilliantly.
I saw your review of Pansies, and it got as far as my Audible wish list, but I’ve decided to go for a comfort re-listen of KJ Charles’ Band Sinister next. This is mainly because the book I’m currently reading, Roan Parrishes’ Invitation to the Blues, seems like it’s going to be very angsty and I like to read and listen to books that are very different in tone – mainly so that I don’t get them confused with each other!

        1. I’m from North-East London and now live in Essex, so the Estuary accent is pretty much the norm, although it wasn’t quite the same as it is now when I was growing up.

The Parrish is a terrific listen, but yes, not exactly an easy one.
