Kicking Off JIAM with a Giveaway

Audie-LogoJune is Audiobook Month!

June is packed full of audiobook events all over the audiobook community and AudioGals has TEN special events planned for the month. We’re honored, on this first day of June Is Audiobook Month (JIAM), to participate in the Audio Publishers Association (APA) month-long giveaway.

This past Thursday, May 29th, the APA announced the thirty-one winners of the 2014 Audie Awards. The APA is bringing that celebration into JIAM by scheduling blogs for each day in June to give away CD copies of all winners.

Pete SeegerAudioGals is giving away a CD copy of Pete Seeger: The Storm King written by Pete Seeger, the winner of The Distinguished Achievement in Production Award ,courtesy of Hachette Audio. The APA said of the recipient of this prestigious award:

The Distinguished Achievement in Production Award went posthumously to Pete Seeger: The Storm King written by Pete Seeger, edited by Jeff Haynes, and read by Pete Seeger, published by Hachette Audio. The judges called the work “a sterling mixture of stories, narratives, poems, and music, this outstanding audio features intimate, seemingly unscripted commentary from Seeger in which he regales listeners with stories about his childhood, family life, career, and much more. Lively, unobtrusive background music complements Seeger’s reminiscences with numerous musical interludes by various talented artists punctuating the narrative in this compelling title that concludes with a moving rendition of Where Have All the Flowers Gone.

This month-long giveaway event actually started yesterday at Audiobooker. There, Mary Burkey is giving away a copy of The Audiobook of the Year, Billy Crystal’s memoir, Still Foolin’ ‘Em. Tomorrow it continues at Urban Girl Reader with a giveaway of the winner of the Personal Development award. Each day, you will be directed to the next blog for their giveaway.

I encourage you to follow this giveaway throughout the month of June by following along each day and thereby seeing where it goes next. Those who use Facebook and/or Twitter can follow the event with the hashtags #audiomonth and #Audies2014.

  1. When I was going over the winners and finalists yesterday I was very surprised at the finalists in the romance category. A Nicholas Sparks book is the winner? I just don’t understand how anyone can classify Sparks’ stuff as romance. Sheesh! The Robin Carr book was okay, but the Kinsale book narrated by Nicholas Boulton was a terrific narration, it should of won….now that’s a romance!

I believe the Audies need some guidance and they should have a separate category for Historical Romance/Fiction.

As far as the winners and finalists I had listened to only two other books and they were mysteries. The St. Just series narrated by the wonderful Davina Porter and the Rhys Bowen book narrated by Katherine Kellegren. Both were good. Most of the authors I have never even heard of…..I am so out of it!

I bet the Billy Crystal book is good, but man oh man do I love David Sedaris! Every year during the holidays our family listens to his Christmas story about being a Santa’s Elf at Macy’s. It is one of the funniest things I’ve ever listened too….all his books are great and to see him in person is just wonderful.

    1. Oh, I definitely have an opinion on the Audie for Best Romance that was just awarded. I have written a rant addressing the choice of a non-romance title winning the Romance award (again) that is included in tomorrow’s Speaking of Audiobooks column. I’ll put up a link at AudioGals in the morning.
