Heading into Autumn as we call it in my part of the world, and it’s time to look at what’s new for September in the audio part of Romancelandia. This is usually a big time for new releases, and we’ve got our usual, eclectic selection of contemporaries, historicals and mysteries to – we hope – whet your appetites and help find your next listen. We use a thoroughly tried-and-tested, scientific method to choose our monthly picks… okay, we don’t really; we base our choices on who the author is, who the narrator is and, sometimes, just what sounds good to us!

A Conspiracy in Belgravia by Sherry Thomas

I read and loved A Study in Scarlet Women, book one in Sherry Thomas’ Lady Sherlock series, and with Kate Reading narrating once again, A Conspiracy in Belgravia is a book I’d be willing to bet will be a hit in audiobook format. – BJ

The Time In Between by Kristen Ashley

I had a bad experience with this narrator before but I listened to the sample and it seems she may have cleaned up the breathiness that drove me up the wall last time. So I’m thinking I’ll give her another go. Because I really want to get to the latest KA stat! – Kaetrin
Most Valuable Playboy by Lauren Blakely
Narrated by Zachary Webber
Lauren Blakely books are reliably good and the narrator is too – sexy, fun and low angst – sounds perfect. – Kaetrin
When the Dead Come a Knockin’ by B. L. Brunnemer
Narrated by Carla Mercer-Meyer and Kris Koscheski
This is one of those books I discovered on a whim. It looks like a great paranormal romance about a young necromancer trying to unseal the veil between the living and the dead. At a little over twenty-one hours in length, this second installment in the Veil Diaries series seems right up my alley. I’ve enjoyed Mr. Koscheski’s narrations in the past, and sound clips of Ms. Mercer-Meyer seem promising, so I’m hoping for a great listening experience. – Shannon
The Woman Who Couldn’t Scream by Christina Dodd
Narrated by Andi Arndt
I haven’t read or listened to a book by Christina Dodd in quite some time, but the synopsis of her latest release intrigues me quite a bit. The stellar narration skills of Andie Arndt are a definite plus, making this a title I can’t wait to pick up. – Shannon
A Strange Scottish Shore by Juliana Gray
Narrated by Gemma Massot
Juliana Gray’s latest series of historical mysteries (that began in A Most Extraordinary Pursuit) really is something a bit different. Set in the early 1900s, these books are a blend of mystery, mythology, time-travel and romance with a teeny bit of the crazy thrown in for good measure, and it works brilliantly. This is the second book in the series, and although the narrator is new-to-me (and I haven’t had a lot of success with unknown/new-to-me narrators lately), I’m keeping my fingers crossed she can do justice to this extremely entertaining story. – Caz
Caught by the Scot by Karen Hawkins
Narrated by Gary Furlong
At time of writing, Audible isn’t listing a narrator for this title, but I’ve seen elsewhere that it’s Gary Furlong, which makes me want to listen as he’s fast becoming a bit of a favourite. Plus it’s the story of a scoundrel who decides his childhood friend, a mousy spinster would make him the perfect respectable wife. I’m a sucker for these sorts of stories! – Caz
Autoboyography by Christina Lauren
Narrated by Deacon Lee and Kyle Mason
The writing duo of Christina Lauren is branching out and releasing an M/M romance this September and I for one am standing in line to listen, especially since I’m also a fan of Deacon Lee’s narrations (though I have yet to listen to one of Kyle Mason’s). – BJ
Broken Course by Aly Martinez
Narrated by Christian Fox and Lucy Rivers
I’m a huge fan of Aly Martinez’s emotional romances, so this September I’m looking forward to listening to Broken Course the third book in the Wrecked and Ruined series.- BJ
Awaken by B.T. Narro
Narrated by Simon Vance
I freely admit to choosing this title mainly because I saw Simon Vance listed as its narrator. His performances are always masterful, and I’ll take pretty much any chance I can get to listen to him. This first installment in a new series promises to blend romance and magic, and I’m really excited to listen to it. – Shannon
Secrets in Death by JD Robb
Narrated by Susan Ericksen
I adore this series. Even though I’m up to book 45 I’m still not sick of it. Susan Ericksen owns the narration so audio is usually my preferred consumption method. – Kaetrin
On the Chase by Katie Ruggle
Narrated by Callie Beaulieu
I was lucky enough to read an early copy of this book in print, and it was an enjoyable mix of romance and mystery that featured some pretty incredible police dogs. I’m not familiar with Callie Beaulieu’s narrations, but I’m hoping she does this title credit. – Shannon
The Ruin of a Rake by Cat Sebastian
Narrated by Gary Furlong
This terrific story of “starchy-very-proper-gentlemen-meets-laid-back-rake” is the third book in Cat Sebastian’s loosely linked set of historical romances and was another winner in print. The writing is excellent, the central characters are superbly drawn and the romance is wonderful – I loved the book, and am eager to experience it again in audio. Gary Furlong has done excellent work on this author’s other titles, and I’m sure he’ll deliver another enjoyable performance. – Caz
Shade’s Lady by Joanna Wylde
Narrated by Tatiana Sokolov & Sean Crisden
I read this one recently and *loved* it. The narrators here are great so I bought the audio as well. – Kaetrin
