  1. I started this week with A Reckless Match by Kate Bateman, narrated by Beverley A. Crick. the book was enjoyable and the narration was excellent. Next was book 2 in the Arcane Hearts series by Nazri Noor, A Stroke of Brilliance, narrated by Zachary Johnson. fun story and the narration was quite good.

I then listened to Noble Satyr (The Roxton Foundation Series, book 1) by Lucinda Brant, narrated by Mary Jane Wells. If you’re familiar with Lucinda Brant, you may notice that this recording of the book, Noble Satyr starts a separate series than the edition narrated by Alex Wyndham, which was the Roxton Family Series. This recording features several of the letters that were released separately before, essentially the letters germane to this book, and hinting at the next in the new series, His Duchess. I loved the Alex Wyndham recording. I also love this one by Mary Jane Wells. she’s absolutely superb. she gave the book a livelier tone than the slightly more staid tone of the Wyndham version, and it feel more about Antonia than Roxton. I think this is such a good example of how a narrator can change a book in subtle but important ways. Both of the narrators and their narrations for this book are excellent, but leave a somewhat different impression of the characters, at least for me. If pushed to choose, I’d have to say the edge goes to Wells’ more lively telling of the story. She imbued every character with a unique and often quirky personality.

    1. I’m waiting for a couole of new review copies to come in so I’ve been listening mostly to podcasts and other bits and pieces while I wait! I’ve got to catch up with the Arcane Hearts series – I’ve got books 4 and 5 in my library and I think the author said the 6th is due soon.
