woman in armchair listening to an audiobook

After feeling optimistic about Spring having sprung a few weeks back, my part of the world seems to have turned the clock back a bit because we’re back to winter temperatures and putting the central heating back on.   C’est la vie en Angleterre!  But at least I’ve got some good things to listen to while I wait for the sun to reappear :)

Here’s what the Gals are listening to this week.

  1. I’ve finished listening to Heidi Cullinan’s ‘Dance With Me’, which I enjoyed very much. I liked both Iggy Toma’s narration and the story – I particularly enjoyed the fact that they did so much dancing in it. Thanks for the recommendation, Caz.

I haven’t decided what I’m going to listen to next. I think I might finally listen to ‘The Same Breath’ as I’ve just had my second Covid jab and I was awake all night after the first one!

    1. I’m so glad you enjoyed Dance With me – I’ve listened to it more than once, and I don’t get much time for re-listens!

I’m still waiting for my 2nd jab – I worked out earlier that I had the first one just under 10 weeks ago, so it should be soon.

      1. We had our first jab just under 10 weeks ago (21st Feb) so I was expecting to be called next week. Was pleased to get the early call!

  2. This week I’ve listened to Better than People by Roan Parish narrated by James Cavenaugh. I though he was a little stiff at first, but grew to really enjoy his narration. A- for story. I also listened to Risk Taker by Lily Morton, narrated by Joel Leslie. I read it in print and I think I liked it even better on audio. B for story.

I then listened to Squared Away by Annabeth Albert, narrated by Greg Boudreaux. The narration was great, but I didn’t enjoy the story as much as I usually do because of the theme of grief running through it, plus major lack of communication between the MCs. The grief was well written, as was the demi-sexual/grey ace aspect, it just wasn’t something I looked forward to picking back up. After lack of communication and Mark acting like a dick for a lot of the book, the ending felt overly optimistic and rushed. A B- for story.

Currently listening to Arctic Heat by Annabeth Albert, narrated by Iggy Toma. Great narration. I’ll probably end up giving the story around a B/B-.

    1. Aw, I’m sorry Squared Away didn’t work so well for you – it’s one of my favourites of what is a very strong series all round.

I liked Better Than People more than its sequel (which Kaetrin has just reviewed) although I couldn’t quite get my head around having so many animals underfoot!!
