Currently Playing for the Gals, 16th November 2018

Woman listeningAnother week closer to the end of 2018, and the Gals have been discussing upcoming December plus 2019 releases and what we like and don’t like about our current listens. Some of us have been taking advantage of the lower priced Audible Romance Package to listen to more books for less $; others of us have decided the RP offerings aren’t worth the extra monthly fee. What do you think?

  1. I think the additional price for the Romance Package with Audible is worth it, at least for me. I basically listen/read predominantly romance of all catagories. The Romance Package allows me to sample and try new books. Right now, I am listening to the Cynster series by Stephanie Laurens performed by Simon Prebble. Ten or eleven of the books in the series are in the Romance Package. The books are very good Regency romances but Simon Prebble makes them extraordinary. He reads intimate and emotional scenes like no other. One reveiwer said that when he reads “…and she shattered…” we all shatter. Or words to that effect… So true!
For the most part, these books cost around $20 or one credit which is around $15, so the extra $10 a month if very worth it.
BTW. I totally recommend the Cynster series read by Simon Prebble!

    1. I’ve enjoyed several of Simon Prebble’s performances, although I haven’t listened to him in any of the Laurens books. Courtney Milan’s Unlocked is one of my favourites.

I did give the romance package a try (it’s not available outside the US, but I managed to work around that!) but I didn’t continue beyond the trial; I couldn’t find enough things I wanted to listen to. I might go back to it occasionally, just for the odd month or two here and there, as I understand that sometimes their offerings change.

    2. I keep hanging on because they do add titles to the package, but could it be any more kludgy to find RP books?? I go to their RP section, and more often then not, end up on a title that isn’t even in the package. How does that happen?? Just following their categories is getting more and more difficult since that isn’t really how I find books. Plus, it seems once you’ve deleted the book from your library (since the limit is 10, I delete them after listening), there’s no indication you’ve ever read it. With my Swiss cheese memory, I’ve downloaded more than one title I’ve already listened to because I didn’t remember the title and/or plot from the descriptions! I’m giving the RP a qualified C…

      1. oh, wait, today I see “removed from your library on [date]” on one of my previous RP listens! Not sure if that was always there or it’s a new feature. Ok, B-!

  2. Thanks for telling me about Unlocked. It is in the Audible Romance Package and I will be listening to it soon.
