Our June 2016 Picks

Here’s our regular look at the recent and upcoming releases we’re excited about listening to this month. We’ve a mixed selection for June, which includes the long-awaited re-issue of a classic series of historicals by Mary Balogh and the final book in Kristen Callihan’s popular and compelling Darkest London series. Add in rom/coms, paranormal, YA and romantic suspense, and there should be something for everyone!

wildest dreamsWildest Dreams by Kristen Ashley

Narrated by Tillie Hooper

Audible Studios is releasing this first book in Kristen Ashley’s Fantasyland series. Though I’m unfamiliar with the narrator, I look forward to seeing how Kristen Ashley tackles fantasy in the debut of this series. – BJ

I LOVE Ashley’s books; especially her heroes. And in Wildest Dreams, you get Ashley craziness and male hawtness set in a fantasy story. I’ve read this one several times and am hopeful the new-to-me narrator will do Frey’s wee Finnie justice.  – Diana

forevermoreForevermore by Kristen Callihan

Narrated by Moira Quirk

The Darkest London series has been one of the most consistently enjoyable series of recent years, and I’m sorry to see it end. Ms Callihan has the knack for creating compelling characters, brilliant action sequences and wonderful, steamy love scenes, and narrator Moira Quirk delivers every time. I’m really looking forward to this one. – Caz

It’s the next long awaited book in Callihan’s Darkest London series! I’ve enjoyed the historical paranormal romance series; Callihan creates unique characters that keep me entertained and on the edge of my seat. Even more so when the FABULOUS Moira Quirk is narrating. Quirk’s got mad skillz yo! – Diana

the bourbon thiefThe Bourbon Thief by Tiffany Reisz

Narrated by Kim Staunton

Tiffany Reisz is one of the most clever and intriguing romance/erotica authors I have ever had the pleasure of reading or listening. This month Harlequin is simultaneously releasing in audio and print her new standalone romantic mystery, The Bourbon Thief, and I for one can’t wait! – BJ
I can’t wait for Tiffany Reisz’s latest release to become available. I love her writing style, and I’m eager to see what she does with this novel. It looks quite different from her Original Sinners series, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. I’m not familiar with narrator Kim Staunton, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed. – Shannon

the rogueThe Rogue by Katharine Ashe

Narrated by Saskia Maarleveld

I absolutely loved this beautifully written story of a dashing swordsman and his gently rekindling romance with the woman he’d loved years before. I haven’t listened to Saskia Maarleveld before, and I admit to some trepidation because this is one of those books where it’s absolutely necessary to get the hero right or it won’t work. So we’ll see… – Caz

simply unforgettableSimply Unforgettable by Mary Balogh

Narrated by Rosalyn Landor

*takes deep breath* SQUEE!!! At last, these recordings from the 2000s  – which have been unavailable for years – of Mary Balogh’s Simply Quartet are being reissued.  – Caz

the soldierThe Soldier by Grace Burrowes

Narrated by James Langton

The second in Ms Burrowes’ Windham series focuses on Devlin St. Just, the Duke of Morland’s illegitimate son. One of the things I so enjoyed about The Heir was the relationship the author has created between the three brothers (Valentine’s story is up next) which is warm, affectionate and brotherly, so I’m looking forward to more of the same, all bound up in a terrific narration from James Langton. – Caz

blissedBlissed by Jamie Farrell

Narrated by Karen White – Farrell is a new author to me, but Karen White’s narration is always top-notch, and I love a good romantic comedy! – Melinda

tumbling turner sistersThe Tumbling Turner Sisters by Juliette Fay

Narrated by Katie Schorr and Eileen Stevens

This story about four sisters who become Vaudeville stars sounds like my idea of the perfect summer listen. It contains a hint of romance as well as a fascinating historical setting. I haven’t listened to either narrator before, but I’m hoping for the best. – Shannon

big vamp on campusBig Vamp on Campus by Molly Harper

Narrated by Amanda Ronconi

This is a Dream Team for both contemporary romcom and contemporary romcom/paranormal! Amanda Ronconi brings just the right note to Molly Harper’s quirky prose, and I expect this to be another winner for them. – Melinda

all I ever wantedAll I Ever Wanted and The Next Best Thing by Kristan Higgins

Narrated by Xe Sands

Xe Sands has been doing a bangup job of narrating Kristan Higgins’ backlist, all of which are favorites of mine. I’ll probably need to do a full re-listen to them all soon! – Melinda

and I darkenAnd I Darken by Kirsten White

Narrated by Fiona Hardingham

I’ve seen this book compared to Victoria Aveyard’s The Red Queen, which I loved. I’m hoping this is just as compelling. With Fiona Hardingham at the helm, an enjoyable listen should be had by all. – Shannon

That’s what we’re looking forward to in June, so what about you?  Have we missed something good?  Drop by and let us know in the comments!

  1. I just finished listening to Blissed this afternoon! As always, Karen’s narration was EXCELLENT from little boys, to old men to autocratic queen generals. This was the first book I’ve ever read by Jamie and I enjoyed it! It’s a light romantic comedy. I look forward to listening to more of her books with Karen performing!
