Our March 2016 Picks

It’s time to look through the upcoming releases and choose the ones we are most looking forward to listening to. Sometimes, our choices are based on the narrator, sometimes on the author and sometimes it’s just gut instinct – and unusually this month, there’s quite a consensus among all the Gals as to which are the audiobooks we’re most eagerly waiting for. Are any of our picks on your eagerly awaiting list? Or are we missing out on any gems?

bronze horsemanThe Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons

Narrated by James Langton

This is one of those books I’ve been meaning to get around to reading for ages, so it’s a natural candidate for audio instead. I can certainly think of worse ways to spend 31 hours than in listening to James Langton’s lovely voice. – Caz

I have this one in print and all my friends tell me it’s awesome but its length has pushed it further and further down the queue. I’m less fazed by that on audio so I’m going to give it a try. – Kaetrin

This is an extremely popular series that I haven’t yet allowed myself to indulge in, but with a narrator like James Langton, I think it will be a hit for fans of the series. It’s a Big Book – over 30 hours of audio. – Melinda

I’ve been waiting for what seems like ages for this book to be available in audio format. It’s an epic historical saga, and I’m sure James Langton will bring it to life beautifully. – Shannon

Because of Miss BridgertonBecause of Miss Bridgerton  by Julia Quinn

Narrated by Rosalyn Landor

I will confess to having squeed a little when I learned that Julia Quinn was penning a prequel series to her iconic Bridgerton stories. And then I squeed some more when I saw Rosalyn Landor was going to be narrating the audio version. Top author and top narrator; satisfaction guaranteed. (And when is someone going to ask her to record the first five Bridgerton books?) – Caz

It’s been I don’t know how many years since Quinn introduced the Bridgerton family. This series is one of my all time favorite historical romance series. And now, the author has written a book introducing the next generation. I. CANNOT. WAIT! O_O And Rosalyn Landor is one of the few who can do Ms Quinn’s writing justice.
Cannot. Wait.
Seriously. – Diana

Julia Quinn is one of the first Romance authors I read – I still can’t believe the entire Bridgerton series hasn’t been recorded! I loved Simon Prebble reading the last 3 Bridgertons, and I adored James Langton’s reading of The Bridgertons: Happily Ever After (all the 2nd epilogues). Landor will be a good match for this book (although I have loved hearing the men read JQ). – Melinda

The Bridgertons are one of my favorite families in historical romance. I’m so pleased Ms. Quinn is giving us more of their stories. Rosalyn Landor’s fabulous narration can only add to what is sure to be a stellar listening experience. – Shannon

The Mésalliance audioThe Mésalliance by Stella Riley

Narrated by Alex Wyndham

Having thoroughly enjoyed both the writing and the narration in book 1 of the Rockliffe Series, The Parfit Knight, I can’t wait for the release of book 2, The Mésalliance, later this month! The Duke of Rockliffe’s story is sure to be another entertaining, touching historical romance. – BJ

As with its predecessor, this is a book I’ve long been wishing would make its way into audio. The Duke of Rockliffe, who was in great danger of stealing our hearts in The Parfit Knight gets his own story, and I know that Alex Wyndham is going to be wonderful.  Caz

I listened to The Parfit Knight recently and fell under the spell of the Duke of Rockliffe. Plus – Alex Wyndham. Enough said. – Kaetrin

fire touchedFire Touched by Patricia Briggs

Narrated by Lorelei King

Being a huge fan of both writing and narration in the this series, I’m excited to see that this 9th book is being released this month. I can’t wait for another Mercy Thompson adventure! – BJ

The Study of SeductionThe Study of Seduction by Sabrina Jeffries

Narrated by Beverley A. Crick

A sexy beta-hero and a romance between two long-standing friends who have been denying their attraction for years… I confess to a weakness for the trope, so am looking forward to this. Beverley A. Crick is no Corrie James (narrator of Ms Jeffries’ previous series), but she’s an accomplished narrator, so fingers crossed. – Caz

cuff meCuff Me by Lauren Layne

Narrated by Avalon Kingsbury

I enjoyed a Lauren Layne book earlier this year so this one caught my eye when I was browsing through the coming soon list. It’s a hot cop and his sassy smart-mouthed partner. What’s not to love? – Kaetrin

fortune-favors-2Fortune Favors the Wicked by Theresa Romain

Narrated by Beverley A. Crick

I’m a big fan of Theresa Romain’s writing; she writes the most wonderful character-driven romances that are full of humour and warmth and it’s a real shame that more of them aren’t available in audio. The premise of the book is intriguing – a courtesan and a wounded naval officer on a treasure hunt – and I’ve enjoyed listening to Ms Crick in the past, so I have high hopes for this one. – Caz

nobody but youNobody But You by Jill Shalvis

Audible still says “narrator to be announced” but all bets are on Karen White

A book by Jill Shalvis narrated by Karen White is an auto-buy for me. I’ve enjoyed Shalvis’ small-town romance series like Animal Magnetism and Cedar Ridge. – Melinda

exposedExposed by Jasinda Wilder

Narrated by Summer Roberts

I was really pleased to see this was coming out in audio format. Madame X, its prequel, left several loose ends dangling, and I am eager to see how things turn out. Narrator Summer Roberts did a great job with the first book, and I’m confident she’ll do equally well with this one. – Shannon

    1. I know, right? – and with James Langton as narrator, I think I’ll finally take the plunge!

  1. I did narrate NOBODY BUT YOU by the inimitable Jill Shalvis! Hope y’all like it :) I took Melinda’s advice and toned down the shouting when possible, too…
I’m also happy to say that I’ll be recording her new series set in San Francisco that starts with SWEET LITTLE LIES.
