    Venetia by Georgette Heyer

Nearly a decade ago, Carrie reviewed this classic title narrated by Phyllida Nash. Find on Amazon Original review posted September 26, 2014 Narrated by Phyllida Nash While musing about the plot of Venetia, I thought about how similar the story is to the classic Beauty and the Beast fairy tale. The similarities are striking enough to wonder if Heyer ...

  • Arabella by Georgette Heyer

    Arabella by Georgette Heyer

Narrated by Phyllida Nash Arabella is one of my favourite Heyer Regencies, so I was delighted when I learned that Naxos was bringing out a new audio version with Phyllida Nash narrating. Ms Nash earned an A from me for her superb narration of Venetia, so I had high expectations. I’m pleased to report that she doesn’t ...

  • Cousin Kate by Georgette Heyer

    Cousin Kate by Georgette Heyer

Narrated by Jilly Bond If you pick up Cousin Kate expecting to listen to one of Georgette Heyer’s trademark romantic comedies of manners, then I’m afraid you might be a little disappointed, as this book is somewhat of a departure from her usual vein. Cousin Kate is more of a gothic mystery than a romance (although there is ...

  • Faro’s Daughter by Georgette Heyer

    Faro’s Daughter by Georgette Heyer

Narrated by Laura Paton It’s been quite some time since I read Faro’s Daughter, and given my memories of it are rather hazy, listening to this was almost like listening to something completely new. It’s a little different to many of the author’s other romances in that the heroine, while certainly well-born, is not “respectable” because ...

Georgette Heyer - Talking with Naxos AudioBooks and a GIVEAWAY!

Georgette Heyer is credited with creating the historical romance genre, beginning with The Black Moth in 1921. She was influenced by Jane Austen and released Regency Buck in 1935, essentially establishing Regency romance as a sub-genre. This year, Naxos AudioBooks is releasing several unabridged Heyer titles – something we at AudioGals are rejoicing! Caz contacted Naxos to get ...

  • The Corinthian by Georgette Heyer

    The Corinthian by Georgette Heyer

Narrated by Georgina Sutton The Corinthian, Sir Richard Wyndham, is a dandy in the manner of Beau Brummel – always impeccably turned out. He’s also good looking, wealthy beyond imagination and extremely bored. When pushed to the wall by his mother and sister to make an offer for a certain young woman whose family is in need ...

  • The Masqueraders by Georgette Heyer

    The Masqueraders by Georgette Heyer

Narrated by Ruth Sillers The Masqueraders is one of Georgette Heyer’s early works, originally published in 1928 and now available in audio format for the first time. It’s a thoroughly engaging Georgian romp, set shortly after the unsuccessful Jacobite Rebellion of 1745. It rattles along at a good pace and is full of fun, sparkling dialogue and ...

A Month of Romance Audio Favorites Selection Narrated by Daniel Philpott I haven’t read The Unknown Ajax in years, but it was one of the first of Ms. Heyer’s novels I purchased in audio and I remember being utterly delighted by it, thinking that the story came to life in a way I hadn’t experienced when reading ...

The Black Moth by Georgette Heyer

Narrated by Julian Rhind-Tutt Although I’m a long-term reader and fan of Georgette Heyer’s romances, there are a couple that, for reasons I can’t fathom, passed me by, and The Black Moth is one of them. So I’ve come to the audio completely fresh, as it were, not having read the book previously. I don’t know if ...

    Sylvester by Georgette Heyer

Narrated by Nicholas Rowe Unabridged The works of Georgette Heyer are a little bit of an acquired taste. She’s considered the creator of the modern Regency romance genre, being an incredibly prolific author whose works were written between 1921 and 1972. (Not to be confused with Jane Austen who wrote novels during the Regency period, 1811-1820.) She is ...

The Grand Sophy by Georgette Heyer

Narrated by Sarah Woodward I sat down to write this review, fingers poised over the keys … and suddenly realized that this would be my first time to write a review of a story that’s older than I am (!) and, moreover, one which is so well known and such a great favorite with romance readers ...

    Faro's Daughter by Georgette Heyer

Narrated by Laura Paton Laura Paton does an excellent job narrating this abridged version of the Heyer classic, Faro’s Daughter. Ms. Paton’s voice is beautifully modulated and a pleasure to listen to. Her reading is calm and steady, with no distracting habits or pauses to pull the listener out of the story. I would enjoy it ...

  1. I love Georgette Heyer and I wish more of her books were re-recorded, especially the Bath books. Thanks for the post!

    1. Same here. Some odd those old Chivers Audio recordings are pretty good, but some books could do with new recordings. I’m sure Naxos worked pick them up like a shot of only the rights were available.
