Our April 2015 Picks

What audiobooks are you excited about this month? Here are a few titles we feel are good bets based on authors, narrators, personal knowledge, reviews of story content, and sometimes… just gut instinct.

the liarThe Liar by Nora Roberts

Narrated by January La Voy

Nora’s annual romantic suspense release with a narrator who sounds great in her clip samples at Audible – Brenda

I admit I was pretty underwhelmed by Roberts’ 2014 single title, The Collector, but I adored The Witness and The Liar seems somewhat in the same vein and right up my alley. When Roberts is on she is ON and I love her romantic suspense best of all – Kaetrin

I love a good mystery, and the chapter previews are already intriguing… who was the man that Shelby Foxworth thought was her husband, and why did he have a safety deposit box full of fake IDs? – Victoria

It’s that time of year – Nora Roberts annual suspense release. Although I’m still a Nora Roberts newbie, I’ve learned that she usually comes through with a story I’ll enjoy. January La Voy is new to me but I’ve heard good things about her narrations – Lea

this gun for hireThis Gun for Hire by Jo Goodman

Narrated by Tom Zingarelli

I rarely read historicals these days in print but I still enjoy them on audio. There is something about the medium which makes it easier for me to relax into the story. I haven’t read any Jo Goodman in a while but she is one of my favourite historical romance authors. I’m not a big western reader/listener but for Goodman I’ll pretty much go anywhere. Tom Zingarelli is a new-to-me narrator but the sample I listened to (of another work) sounded great so I have high hopes! – Kaetrin

As an Old West fan, I long for quality Western romances in audio format but there are so few these days. Therefore, I’m always enthused to see a Jo Goodman title – her writing impresses me every time. I haven’t listened to a Tom Zingarelli but the sample sounds goodLea

infinity plus oneInfinity + One by Amy Harmon

Narrated by Tavia Gilbert

Last year, I discovered the magic of Amy Harmon’s writing. The synopsis of this book looks incredible, and I know narrator Tavia Gilbert can be trusted to deliver a stellar performance – Shannon

What a combination – Amy Harmon and Tavia Gilbert! – Lea

silver bastardSilver Bastard by Joanna Wylde

Narrated by Allyson Ryan and Johnathan McClain

I haven’t tried any of Wylde’s books on audio before but I am a big fan of her work in print. She tends to take me right up to the edge of my comfort zone and there is something so compelling about her writing and characterisations. I’m looking forward to the audio experience – Kaetrin

Motorcycle romance? I’m always searching for a really good one but find so few. I’m betting this one will be a winner – Lea

Although I am not familiar with the narrating duo of Allyson Ryan and Johnathan McClain, I am basing this top pick purely on my love for Joanna Wylde’s fantastic breed of MC Romance. Having read or listened to nearly all of her Reapers MC series, I can’t wait to listen to this debut book in the spin-off series, Silver Valley – BJ

mate bondMate Bond by Jennifer Ashley

Narrated by Cris Dukeheart

Ms Ashley is adding a twist to this series “mate bond rules” with this title. I know I’ll enjoy Cris Dukehart’s narration and I’m looking forward to seeing how the new twist plays out – Brenda

Ashley is the master of every genre in which she writes – I know there’s a lot of buzz about this new entry to the series – Melinda

overruledOverruled by Emma Chase

Narrated by Jason Carpenter and Charlotte Penfield

I discovered Emma Chase last year and haven’t looked back. I’m sad, though, that Sebasitan York isn’t narrating this time around – he brought her witty and fast paced stories to life excellently. Lets hope this new-to-me duo will be just as impressive – Diana

Emma Chase writes witty New Adult titles and, although I’ll miss Sebastian York, I’m betting I’ll thoroughly enjoy OverruledLea

soundrel debutanteThe Scoundrel and the Debutante by Julia London

Narrated by Rosalyn Landor

I’ve enjoyed the other books and audiobooks in this series and am looking forward to this, the third. With the fabulous Rosalyn Landor narrating once again, it’s bound to be a great listen – Caz

Another winning author/narrator combination that has potential – Melinda

OverloadOverload by Linda Howard

Narrated by Lesa Lockford

This is a Linda Howard novella from back in the day. If memory serves, the story has a neanderthal hero who grated on my nerves. I’m hoping the impressive talents of Lesa Lockford will change my mind about him – Brenda

A new Linda Howard in audio format! It’s a novella (not my preference) and it sounds like the hero may be a bit too much (1993 orig. pub) but still, I can’t resist – Lea

still the oneStill the One by Jill Shalvis

Narrated by Karen White

Anyone who’s anyone knows that when these two fabulous ladies come together, there is a good time to be had!  Shalvis writes sexy stories and White brings that sexiness to life beautifully – Diana

The Animal Magnetism series works for me on so many levels – great characters, animals (Peanut the Parrot!) and narration by Karen White! – Melinda

enchanting pleasuresEnchanting Pleasures by Eloisa James

Narrated by Susan Duerden

Pairing a great author with a great narrator makes this a promising release of an older Regency – Melinda

blood and boneBlood and Bone by Tara Brown

Narrated by Amy Johnson

I won’t lie. I’m drawn to dark books. They thrill me in a way I can’t put into words. Blood and Bone seems like exactly the right kind of story for me. Amy Johnson is a narrator I’ve not listened to before, but I’m hoping for something great – Shannon

beautiful secretBeautiful Secret by Christina Lauren

Narrated by Charlotte Penfield and Johnathan Cole

Another beautiful story! I’ve enjoyed the writing duo of Christina Lauren – they have a knack for creating sexy characters and hilarious situations. And Cole is sure to please with that accent of his! Heck, we all know a British accent can make anything sound sexy! – Diana

garden of liesGarden of Lies by Amanda Quick

Narrated by Louise Jane Underwood

I’d be highly  anticipating this one if the narrator had more titles under her belt – but I’ll be taking the risk – Brenda

perfect neighbourThe Perfect Neighbor by Nora Roberts

Narrated by Angela Dawe

One of my very favorite series titles by Nora Roberts. I can’t wait to have time to listen (and laugh) – Brenda

bedding proposalThe Bedding Proposal by Tracy Anne Warren

Narrated by Barrie Kreinik

I loved the print edition of this book, which was an intense, compelling read with an unusual premise for an historical. It’s a great story, and although I’ve not heard narrator Barrie Kreinik before, I like to try new narrators from time to time, so this seems like a good opportunity to do just that – Caz

color of secrestsThe Color of Secrets by Lindsay Ashford

Narrated by Heather Wilds

Heather Wilds’ name listed as narrator is what first caught my attention. However, once I read the blurb, my interest was piqued. I love books set during the Second World War, and the element of secrets adds an extra layer of goodness – Shannon

Say My NameSay My Name by J. Kenner

Narrated by Abby Craden

My top pick for April. Given the popularity of the Stark Trilogy, this debut of the spin-off series, Stark International, will no doubt garner quite an audience. Moreover, I’m a huge fan of Abby Craden’s narrations, and with her naturally husky voice, I’m sure she will expertly bring to life what promises to be a steamy listen – BJ

Three HoursThree Hours by Dannika Dark

Narrated by Nicole Poole

It is no secret that I’m a huge fan of the Seven series. I have been devouring this Paranormal series by Dannika Dark, that features a fantastic narration by Nicole Poole, nearly as fast as the titles are released. This month Book 5, Three Hours, will feature Wheeler’s and Naya’s story.

  1. I’d have added Anna Campbell’s A Scoundrel by Moonlight narrated by Steve West, if I’d found it in time! I loved his performance in her previous book, What a Duke Dares and had been hoping he’d be narrating this. Sometimes, wishes do come true ;-)

  2. As a follow-up to the Silver Bastard recommendation above, I started listening to it and I’m happy to report that I am enjoying both Allyson Ryan’s and Johnathan McClain’s narration. I love it when I find new narrators I enjoy!
