A Quick Historical Romance Survey

We’re preparing for our next AudioGals Guide to Romance Audio infographic and this time we’re featuring Historical Romance. We’re asking you to take a minute to complete our survey, answering this question:

Given that the narrator would be perfection personified, which of these historical romance authors would you listen to in audio format?

We’re considering many more authors for inclusion in our upcoming infographic than you will see on this list. Today’s survey will be used to help us better understand what Historical Romance authors you would listen to today if the audiobook was easily available and performed by a narrator of your choice. Would you tend to choose those authors who published a large number of their best known titles in the 1980s, 1990s, or early 2000s? Do you prefer today’s newer Historical Romance authors? Or do you go with a mixture of the two?

Please indicate ALL the authors who interest you. There’s no limit to your answers.

The survey is complete.

Watch for our AudioGals Guide to Romance Audio – Historical Romance on December 1st.

Thank you for your assistance!

  1. I’m looking forward to your next Guide. They are amazing! May I suggest three authors whose books I would love to listen to? Penelopw Williamson, Joan Wolf and Patricia Gaffney. With the perfect ideal narrators. Because their work deserves them. And please Loretta Chase and the Carsington family books. That would make my year! Thanks for this!

  2. I would like to see updated narrations of Georgette Heyer’s historicals, Especially the “Bath” books.

    Thank you!

      1. Please oh please can we make that happen! It would be fantastic Kate if you narrated the “Bath” books. I’m having heart palpitations just thinking about it!

        1. I agree about wishing to hear some updated Georgette Heyer, with different/better narrators. Maybe Naxos can work on getting access to the rights.

    1. So would I, Mel, but as Nicolas Soames from Naxos explained, the rights are not available, otherwise I think they would be only too delighted to be making more Heyer recordings.

It’s daft and frustrating for those of us who just want to be able to listen to more, good quality recordings of these books.

And Kate – you have no idea how happy that comment makes me :) We just need to bludgeon some lawyers over the head to make it happen!!

      1. I remember you mentioning that about the rights. I just believe if enough of us “put it out there” it could happen.

  3. Looks like our next survey needs to be those authors we want to see in audio format! Or…those books we want to see rerecorded. Hey, it worked with Suzanne Brockmann’s first six Troubleshooter entries – we kept wishing.

    1. Would definitely love to see more Mary Balogh books in audio format! Her older Signets or the missing books, such as the Slightly and Simply series (previously recorded).

  4. I would love to see Liz Carlyle’s back list in audio and also the rest of Gaelen Foley’s Knight series.

    1. I forgot to include Julie Anne Long’s Pennyroyal series. I’m surprised none have been done in audio since HarperCollins seems to be producing audio versions of many of their historical romance titles.

  5. Yes to that Moriah! I second your suggestions, partcularly Julie Anne Long! And I would like to add that I’d really love to have Paulina Simmons’ The Bronze Horseman trilogy in digital audio format.
