Ilona Andrews’ Steel’s Edge in Audio!

steels-edge-183x300Yes it’s true. You can now listen to Renee Raudman narrate the finale of Ilona Andrews’ The Edge series!

I’m not the only one who has been haunting the Recorded Books web site looking for a whisper of info on the audiobook release of Steel’s Edge along with regularly (obsessively?) checking Audible and Amazon for that prized pre-order button that tells us our dreams of an audiobook will come true.

There still isn’t a speck of data about the audiobook version of Steel’s Edge to be found at those three spots (??) but Googling the title, in conjunction with the publishers name, brought me to the doorstep of Audibooks.com where I found not only the information I had been searching for but a copy of the audiobook available to download (as a rental). I went with the seven day free trial of their rental service but if they continually have highly desired titles earlier than the competition, I will keep my membership.

Seeing proof that Ilona Andrews’ Steel’s Edge had indeed made it to audio would have been enough to keep me patiently awaiting the audiobook’s release but finding the proof along with a downloadable copy of the book on the same day is what this audiobook fan considers a stellar search result. :)

Having expected Steel’s Edge to be released in audio along with the paper copy in November 2012 wasn’t unwarranted by fans of the series. Two earlier entrants in The Edge series, Bayou Moon and Fate’s Edge, had been released simultaneously in print and audio after the successful pairing of one of my favorite narrators (i.e. Renee Raudman) with the first book in the series, On the Edge, late in 2009. But the expectations for this fourth entry proved to be in vain as the audiobook rights had changed hands from Tantor to Recorded Books in the interim.

Yes, reading the book myself was exciting (gushing could ensue) as I have loved all of this authors work in print as well as those titles available in audio. The audio versions of The Edge series, as well as the Andrews’ not to be missed Kate Daniels series, share the same excellent narrator in Renee Raudman. Her talented voicing of Andrews’ characters takes already great books and boosts them to a new level of enjoyment. Knowing that made the five months of anticipation to hear the audiobook version of Steel’s Edge seem longer. ;)

Initial thoughts – the audio of Steel’s Edge was worth waiting for! And thank you Recorded Books for giving dedicated Ilona Andrews’ audiobook fans the true “voice” of this series by keeping Renee Raudman at the narrating helm.

Steel's EdgeP.S. As an aside let’s hope when Steel’s Edge becomes available at Audible the cover art has been spiced up a bit – I know it’s all about the listening – but really?

  1. Ilona Andrews’ on sale at Audible – If you already own (or purchase them now) the following books in Kindle you can get the audiobook versions on sale for $3.99 each.

    The Kate Daniels series
    #1 Magic Bites
    #2 Magic Burns
    #3 Magic Strikes
    #4 Magic Bleeds
    #5 Magic Slays
    #5.5 Gunmetal Magic

    The Edge Series
    #2 Bayou Moon
    #3 Fate’s Edge

  2. For so many years, Recorded Books would release a popular print book in audio only to keep it for rentals or a very expensive purchase not allowing it to go up at Audible for a long time – if ever. Wonder if that is what is happening here. Have you found anything that says it will eventually be offered at Audible?

  3. Possibly a long time before it comes to Audible? – bite your tongue – I need my own copy. :p

One thing I noticed in the introduction of Steel’s Edge was “Recorded Books and One Click Digital present…”.

One Click Digital is one of the library download services – lucky library patrons – but I’m predicting a riot if it doesn’t become commercially available (i.e. Audible) to the public. ;)
