Our January 2017 Picks

Here is the Gals’ guide to what we think are the best of January’s new releases. Some of these are already available, some are coming out later in the month, but in each case, our choices are based on a variety of factors; author, narrator, story… or just gut instinct. Are any of these on your wish list? Have you listened to any of them and if so, what did you think? Have we missed out anything you’re looking forward to? Join in the discussion in the comments.

Full Package by Lauren Blakely

Narrated by Sebastian York

These sexy, funny  romance audios are a guilty pleasure ;)  I love Ms. Blakely’s take on the male PoV; her heroes are normally witty, self-deprecating and utterly charming, and I am sure that hero Chase Summers is no exception.  Plus, Sebastian York breathes life into these guys like no-one else can. – Caz

I’ve loved the other books in this series – Big Rock, Mister O, Well Hung – and I think Blakely and York are a perfect author/narrator pairing. I have BIG expectations. – Kaetrin

Breath of Fire by Amanda Bouchet

Narrated by Mia Barron

Having thoroughly enjoyed both the writing and narration of Amanda Bouchet’s A Promise of Fire I can’t wait to continue this series with book two, A Breath of Fire, to see both how the romance and fantasy plot evolve. – BJ

A Promise of Fire, book one in the Kingmaker Chronicles, was a huge hit with print readers and audiobook listeners alike. I’m sure this second installment will be equally popular. The synopsis sounds amazing and Ms. Barron is a very skilled narrator, making this something I can’t wait to listen to. – Shannon

Between the Devil and the Duke by Kelly Bowen

Narrated by Ashford MacNab

The books in Kelly Bowen’s A Season for Scandal series have been among of the strongest historical romances published in the last couple of years.  I adored the previous book, A Duke to Remember, and have been eagerly awaiting the publication of this, the third book, which takes as its hero the enigmatic and gorgeously sexy Alexander Lavoie, gambling club owner and partner in Chagarre and Associates.  Ashford MacNab’s work in the last book was the best of her recent performances, so I’m hoping for more of the same. – Caz

I loved the previous entries in Ms. Bowen’s Season for Scandal series. In fact, I listed the first book, Duke of My Heart,  as my favorite romance of 2016 at All About Romance. I can’t wait to listen to this latest installment. – Shannon

Simply Scandalous by Mary Balogh

Narrated by Rosalyn Landor

Yep, this inclusion in my list of January picks will come as no surprise.  The bold, headstrong Lady Freyja Bedwyn meets her match in this third book in Mary Balogh’s perennially popular Bedwyn Saga. And with Rosalyn Landor once more at the helm, it’s bound to be an audio treat.  – Caz

Caraval by Stephanie Garber

Narrated by Rebecca Solar

This book has been receiving high praise for months, and I can’t wait to get my hands on it. It’s a mix of magic, romance, and adventure, things that make it right up my alley. I’m not familiar with Rebecca Solar’s narrations, but I’m hoping for good things. – Shannon

Mr. Romantic by JA Huss

Narrated by Erin Mallon and Tad Branson

Melinda really enjoyed an earlier book in this series – in fact, I bought it on her recommendation. This one caught my eye when I was browsing at Audible. – Kaetrin

Seven Minutes in Heaven  by Eloisa James

Narrated by Susan Duerden

I’m a fan of both Eloisa James’ witty writing and Susan Duerden’s narrations, so I’m looking forward to their newest release, out at the end of January. – BJ

Breathless by Beverly Jenkins

Narrated by Kim Staunton

Ms. Jenkins writes incredible romances set in the American west. Her characters are diverse, and her settings are harsh and rugged. Her latest novel promises to be yet another hit, especially with Kim Staunton narrating. – Shannon

Egomaniac by Vi Keeland.

Narrated by Andi Arndt & Joe Arden.

I enjoyed Playboy Pilot, which was co-written by Keeland and this narrator pair guarantees enjoyment. I’m in. – Kaetrin

Separation Games by CD Reiss

Narrated by Elena Wolfe and Sebastian York

I can’t wait for the sequel and conclusion to Marriage Games. Proving just how deep and meaningful erotic romance can be when done right, CD Reiss is a master of this romance sub-genre and assuming the same unusual narration approach is utilized in the sequel, Separation Games promises to be another unique listen. – BJ
