Stop the Presses! (belatedly…) Julia Quinn’s The Bridgertons on Audio!

the-duke-and-iSomehow it missed all of us that Recorded Books was going to release The Duke and I by Julia Quinn, narrated by Rosalyn Landor, last week! And that would surely have been at the top of several of our “Monthly Picks” lists, which we released just the day before, without mentioning this at all – so remiss!

A classic series by one of the top Historical Romance authors, that most Historical Romance audiobook fans have been wishing for, brought to life by one of the best Historical Romance narrators ever – truly a win-win-win! Can it possibly mean that the rest of the earlier Bridgerton series will be released on audio over the next few months? (The last 3 have been in audio, narrated by Simon Prebble, for years.)

At Audible, there are 3 more JQ books in the pipeline, using a relatively unknown-to-us narrator, Lucy Rayner, the Blydon series – Splendid, Dancing at Midnight, and Minx, all slated for release on December 13. Shannon gave Rayner an A for narrating The Firebird by Susanna Kearsley almost 3 years ago, praising her use of accents and her pacing. This narrator is not new, but has relatively few romance titles – you can read more about her at her website. You can also listen to samples at Audible, but I’m sharing her audiobook demo from SoundCloud.com below.

  1. Good news, how exciting! The Viscount Who Loved Me and How to Marry a Marquis are my favorite Quinns and I would be very happy if they were recorded too.

    1. Fingers crossed, Mel. The Viscount Who Loved Me is once of my favourites, too. In fact it was the first JQ I ever read and one of the first historicals I read so I’ve got quite a big soft spot for it :)

      1. Me too, about The Viscount Who Loved Me. We were staying at a lodge in WA and it and Naked in Death were on the shelf in our cottage with “left” crime, horror and mysteries. I read both in about a day and I was crazy happy after finishing both books, I jumped into the car and drove thirty miles to the nearest town to buy the rest of the books. That was 2002, I found two fabulous bookstores in Port Angeles WA, I wonder if they are still in business? Those two books changed my reading life to be sure. Good times:)

  2. Here are the release dates for the CDs from Recorded Books’ catalogue. Keep in mind their CDs often come out 1+ months after the download (no idea why). The Duke and I on CD is releasing in November.

The Viscount Who Loved Me, 23 February 2017
An Offer from a Gentleman, 23 May 2017
Romancing Mr Bridgerton, 23 August 2017
To Sir Phillip, With Love, 23 November 2017

    1. Well, that’s quite a wait (I’m not the most patient person!) but it’s good to know they’re on the way!
