Our April 2016 Picks

We’ve been used to running our regular Picks post at the beginning of each month, but with more and more audiobooks being released at different times throughout each month, we’ve decided to run it a little later to give us a chance to pick up on some of the titles that come out later.  So from now on, watch out for our low-down on the audiobooks we’re most looking forward to in the second or third week of the month.  What hasn’t changed is our selection criteria: Sometimes, our choices are based on the narrator, sometimes on the author and sometimes it’s just gut instinct. Are any of our picks on your eagerly awaiting list? Or are we missing out on any gems?

The PlayerThe Player by Stella Riley

Narrated by Alex Wyndham

The fabulous author/narrator duo of Stella Riley and Alex Wyndham release the third title in the Rockcliffe series this month. With this sure-fire talented duo collaborating again, this is an historical romance title that HR audiobook enthusiasts will not want to miss!    – BJ

This third book in Ms Riley’s series of Georgian romances promises another of the author’s trademark swoonworthy heroes plus a loveable heroine… and a romantic highwayman! Alex Wyndham has done wonderful work with the previous books (The Parfit Knight and The Mésalliance) and I’m sure he’ll continue to impress here. – Caz

More Alex Wyndham narration cannot be a bad thing. Bring it. – Kaetrin

by Kristen Ashley

Narrated by Tara Ochs

Book 7 in the Colorado Mountain series releases this month and in an interesting twist the usual narrator, Emma Taylor, has been replaced. Being a fan of both Kristen Ashley and Emma Taylor who had done a great job narrating the prior books, I’ll be curious to see if Ms. Ochs can fill the big shoes that Ms. Taylor has left behind. As of the time of this posting, no sound sample is yet available on Audible’s website, but either way I wanted miss a KA title! – BJ

Nights with himNights with Him by Lauren Blakely

Narrated by Sebastian York

I listened to the first book in this series earlier this year and enjoyed it so I’m on board for this one. – Kaetrin

private relationsPrivate Relations by Diane Chamberlain

Narrated by Karen White

I’m extremely pleased whenever I encounter a new book by Diane Chamberlain. Recently, Tantor has been making more and more of her backlist available in audio format, something which excites me greatly. Originally published in 1989, Private Relations is a book I’ve been wanting to listen to for some time, and, in the skilled hands of narrator Karen White, I’m sure it will be a wonderful experience. – Shannon

Your Scandalous Ways

Your Scandalous Ways by Loretta Chase

Narrated by Kate Reading

More from the wonderful author/narrator team that is Loretta Chase and Kate Reading!  Do I need to say any more? – Caz

Don't Tempt Me

Don’t Tempt Me by Loretta Chase

Narrated by Kate Reading

Together with Your Scandalous Ways, this completes the recordings of Loretta Chase’s backlist of full-length novels, so now we have to wait for something completely new!  Unless, there are any plans for recordings of her novellas.  I certainly wouldn’t complain about an audio version of The Mad Earl’s Bride… – Caz

one secondOne Second by Dannika Dark

Narrated by Nicole Poole

Being a long-time fan of the Seven Series urban fantasy duo of Dannika Dark and Nicole Poole, I’m anxiously awaiting the conclusion of the series. – BJ

one with youOne with You by Sylvia Day

Narrated by Jill Redfield and Jeremy York

I can’t wait to see how Ms. Day will wrap up this enthralling series. It’s dark and sexy and is filled with flawed characters who are willing to fight for the people they love. Ms. Redfield is sure to deliver a stellar performance, and I’ve heard good things about Mr. York’s abilities as well. – Shannon

the obsessionThe Obsession by Nora Roberts

Narrated by Shannon McManus

I’m a long-time fan of Nora Roberts’ work, and her latest release promises to be full of sizzling sexuality and heart-stopping suspense. I’m not too familiar with Shannon McManus’s narrations, but the samples I’ve heard sound promising. – Shannon

the summer before the warThe Summer Before the War by Helen Simonson

Narrated by Lucy Scott

One of my fellow Dear Author reviewers read and recommended the print version of this one – after listening to a sample of the narrator’s work I’m keen to listen to the audio. – Kaetrin

  1. Hope you all enjoy PRIVATE RELATIONS. I’m a fan of Diane’s as well and it was fascinating to record her very first book. While she’s definitely grown as a writer in many ways, this was still an emotionally powerful book that explored quite a few issues – some that I think we’ve grown up from as a society, some not so much, unfortunately.
