  1. I’m listening. depending on mood and location, to two wonderful non-fiction books — Come as You Are by Emily Nagoski and Earth Moved by Amy Stewart (topics are human sex and sexuality, and earthworms, respectively) — both are enjoyable although the first takes some concentration so I only listen when I am doing mindless tasks. Come is narrated by the author, who teaches in a university and is quite competent. Heather Henderson narrates Earth and is equally competent and one of those rare few who can do humor well.

For fiction, I am listening to Til Death do us Part by Amanda Quick. I’ve been at it for a week now, so while I am enjoying it, and I really like the direction ‘Amanda Quick” has taken her writing — more edge — sometimes I take the ‘scary’ sections in small bites, as I’m doing with this one. Personally, I like this narrator.(Louise Jane Underwood, although I find the pacing slow to my American ears… perhaps it is also why I’m not picking it up as often … each scene takes a while to get through and I would like to ‘find out’, especially the scary bits.

I’ve also started Loretta Chase’s Don’t Tempt Me. This is one of the books that makes Kate Reading shine — all broody and introspective, which she does so well. I wasn’t wowed by the book the first time I read it when it first came out a few years back, but I’m older and wiser now, and while less charmed, I am more impressed with Madame Chase’s writing than ever.

Thanks for letting me ‘talk books’ — it’s a rare treat and wish you all had a ‘forum’ so I could pick some of your minds on your reviews and ‘what did you mean when you said …’ , but for now, I’m enjoying your reviews.

    1. Pam, Louisa Jane Underwood sounds slow to my British ears, too! In fact I opted to NOT listen to the Amanda Quick because she was the narrator. She’s not terrible, but I remember not liking her performance in Garden of Lies so I stuck to the new one in print.

As for Kate Reading, well, she shines in just about everything!

Please do drop by to chat audios with us – I’m sure my fellow Gals will agree when I say that we all love exchanging views and picking brains about what to listen to – or not – next!

  2. I’ll be doing a giveaway for Jessica Hawkins’ SLIP OF THE TONGUE on my facebook page next week (Andi Arndt, Narrator). This was the fourth book I’ve narrated for her and I love her writing.
