A Few of Our Favorite Things – Part 1

As a recap of the year, the Gals talked about a few of their favorite things in the past year…

Shannon

Dearest RogueFavorite new-to-me series of 2015: I’ve recently discovered Elizabeth Hoyt’s Maiden Lane series. I’m not sure where I’ve been all these years, but I’m glad I finally caught up and allowed myself to be immersed in 1730’s London. I’m trying to limit myself to one Maiden Lane book a month, but I don’t know if I can stick to that. I’m really excited to find out what happens next.

Seize the FireMy most anticipated release in 2015: Seize the Fire by Laura Kinsale, narrated by Nicholas Boulton. I’d been chomping at the bit for this one for over a year. The book is one of my favourites of hers – I do love a damaged hero, and Sheridan is one of the best (if that’s the right way to put it) – and I just KNEW that Nick would knock it out of the park. He did that and then some. He just picked up everything about the character, the self-loathing, the vulnerabilities, the goodness-buried-so-deep-that-it-was-almost-impossible-to-find; and turned in the most amazing, finely-nuanced performance. It’s one of my favourite audiobooks of 2015.

BJ

bluetoothMy favorite new tech gadget for audiobooks: I discovered Bluetooth earbuds this year. I love the flexibility and ease with which Bluetooth earbuds facilitate my audiobook listening at the gym and when I’m on the go!

3d Snowman listens on headphonesFavourite place to listen to audiobooks: I’m usually on the move when I listen – either doing housework, cooking or driving.  Housework isn’t exactly among my favourite things, so I guess my favourite place to listen would be the kitchen or the car!

It Had to Be YouFavorite Annual Re-listen: Every year I take some time out to do a marathon of the Chicago Stars series by Susan Elizabeth Phillips, performed by Anna Fields. The very first time I read them, I didn’t 100% appreciate the nuances of the whacky situations the characters got themselves into – Bobby Tom Denton’s wild pool party while he is mourning the loss of his football career, Dr. Jane’s strip-tease moves adapted from her workout routine, and who could forget Dean’s reaction to the headless beaver costume on Blue? Each time I read them, I fall more in love!

We’ll be sharing more of our favorites all month.

  1. The Maiden Lane series with Ashford McNab narrating is incredible. I can’t wait to start Sweet Soundrel. Also, how can you go wrong with a Chicago Stars re-listening. Anna Fields is A+ on everyone one of SEP’s books.
