Our September 2015 Picks

What audiobooks are you excited about this month? Here are some upcoming and just released audiobooks we are looking forward to hearing!

only a kiss

Only a Kiss by Mary Balogh

Narrated by Rosalyn Landor

I am really enjoying Ms Balogh’s Survivor’s Club series, and have been looking forward to this, the story of the one female member of the group. And with Rosalyn Landor once again narrating, I know I’m in for a terrific listen. – Caz

Balogh is a master of historical romance, and Landor is top-notch. This should please all romance readers! – Melinda

Balogh plus Landor equals a winning combination. Ms. Balogh’s Survivors Club series is something special, and I’ve been looking forward to this release for some time now. – Shannon

Highlander Undone

Highlander Undone by Connie Brockway, narrated by Napoleon Ryan

I’m not familiar with the narrator, but Connie Brockway’s name on the cover is a big draw, so I’m eager to give Mr Ryan a try! – Caz

Brockway is an autobuy romance author for me – fingers crossed on the narrator, who got a mixed review from Shannon. – Melinda

forever with you

Forever With You by Jennifer L. Armentrout

The narrator for this one hasn’t been announced yet, but the blurb looks good so I’m definitely interested. – Kaetrin

hold on

Hold On by Kristen Ashley

Narrated by Mackenzie Cartwright Erin Bennett

I think the KA engine just keeps revving up and up – another in The ‘Burg series by The Crackmistress, and it should be good! – Melinda (PS: what? change of narrator?? They didn’t know who narrated??)

To say I’ve been underwhelmed by the previous narrators of The ‘Burg series is putting it mildly (my ears wouldn’t let me finish the 2nd, 3rd or 4th entry and I have yet to attempt the 5th) but there’s always hope in the audiobook world, right? The narrator had been listed as Mackenzie Cartwright until the day before release. Now Audible has Erin Bennett as the narrator. Listening to sound samples between the two I think I’m already disappointed – again. – Brenda

stolen mackenzie bride

The Stolen Mackenzie Bride by Jennifer Ashley

Nnarrated by Angela Dawe

The Mackenzie family is a favorite of mine, and I have enjoyed Angela Dawe’s narrations too. This one takes place more than a century before the current clan. – Melinda

I feel lucky to enjoy Angela Dawe’s Scottish accent so much. Jennifer Ashley is a prolific author and she has plans to stay in Scotland with the start of this new Mackenzie series. – Brenda

sisters of versailles

The Sisters of Versailles by Sally Christie

Narrated by Elizabeth Wiley

This looks like one of those historical novels I can totally lose myself in. They don’t come along all the time, so I’m always elated to discover a new one. – Shannon

about that flin

About that Fling by Tawna Fenske

Narrated by Kelly Mizell

Billed as a romantic comedy, I’m hoping this one will hit my funny bone as well as my mushy centre. – Kaetrin

nine minutes

Nine Minutes by Beth Flynn

Narrated by Monique Makena

Nine Minutes is one of the best MC Romances I have ever read! A fantastic romantic suspense title too. Although I’m not familiar with the narrator, MC romance lovers will not want to miss this unique story (please note though that this story ends in a cliffhanger, so you’ll have to listen to the entire series for the full story). – BJ

king

King by TM Frazier

Narrated by Molly Glenmore and Rob Shapiro.

With a 4.28 average on Goodreads rating and over 7,000 ratings, King by TM Frazier caught my attention earlier this year when it released in e-book format. Though, I’m not familiar with the narrators, this dark romance, romantic suspense title has sufficiently piqued my interest that I plan to dive in and listen upon release. – BJ

I do

I Do! by Rachel Gibson

Narrated by Shannon McManus

This was a fun novella released earlier this year. I am wondering how there will be 12 hours of audio from this 112-page book, though! I don’t know this narrator, but samples at Audible sound promising, and she has a lot of recording creditsl – Melinda

I’m not familiar with the narrator but her sound clips sound promising. Rachel Gibson needs a narrator with a funny bone!  to “get” her writing and then said narrator needs to be able to deliver the humor to the listener! – Brenda (who has an opinion or 2 about previous Gibson narrators who did not deliver!)

gus

Gus by Kim Holden

Narrated by Lidia Dornet and Alex Kydd.

Having just finished the very emotional and yet eerily inspiring Bright Side, Gus, the sequel, promises to be another emotional journey, but this time with more of a healing and second chance at romance theme. Having greatly enjoyed Lidia Dornet’s performance in Bright Side, I’m glad to see she will be returning. The second narrator (Alex Kydd) appears to be a classically trained actor (per the Tantor website), but is brand new to the audiobook world (with no other audiobooks to his credits). – BJ

the hidden heart

The Hidden Heart by Laura Kinsale

Narrated by Nicholas Boulton.

Laura Kinsale read by Nicholas Boulton.  I don’t think I need to say any more!  (Other than that this is the final book of their collaboration, so excuse me while I curl up into the foetal position and weep :(  ) – Caz

playing it close

Playing it Close by Kat Latham

Narrated by Miranda Robinson

I’ve read and loved some of the other books in the series, so I know I’ll like this one. – Kaetrin

her kind of trouble

Her Kind of Trouble by Sarah Mayberry

Narrated by Shiloh Grey

Mayberry is another favorite of mine in Contemporary Romance. Unless Shiloh Grey is a pseudonym, however, she is a very new narrator – 2 other listings at Audible – and from the samples, I can’t really tell how she will do with a contemporary Australian setting, so this is a “hedged” pick for me. – Melinda

after you

After You by Jojo Moyes

Narrated by Anna Acton

Me Before You was super popular, and After You, the sequel, promises to be just as heart-wrenching. The narrator is unknown to me, but the audible sample sounds promising. – Shannon

breaking his rules

Breaking His Rules by Alison Packard

Narrated by Sandra Caldwell

This is book 4 in the series that started out with soap opera star protagonists, and moved on to professional baseball player heroes. I liked the first 2 in audio, both with different narrators. – Melinda

devoted in death

Devoted in Death by JD Robb

Narrated by Susan Ericksen

New In Death books are always a treat – the combination of Robb/Ericksen is guaranteed win for me. – Kaetrin

Wonderment in Death

Wonderment in Death by JD Robb

Narrated by Susan Ericksen

Even a novella is a must have when it’s J.D. Robb and Susan Ericksen! – Brenda

archangels enigma

Archangel’s Enigma by Nalini Singh

Narrated by Justine Eyre

Not since Kaleb’s book have I anticipated a Singh release more. We finally get to know exactly what Naasir is! He’s been the most secretive of the Seven since the beginning and I just know it’s going to be a really good read. Especially since the fabulous Eyre returns to narrate. Eyre IS the Guild-Hunter series. – Diana

I’m continually amazed at how Nalini Singh can keep two very different series so interesting. Justine Eyre will forever be the voice of Ms Singh’s Archangel world. – Brenda

  1. Brenda, I hate that they changed narrators for Hold On! I agree with you about the narrators except I did like the book with the male narrator. I really think a lot of the problems with these books is the lack of good editing! Just my opinion!????

  2. So excited about Archangel’s Enigma, but I am going to save the audio for after I read the novel. I used to listen to the In Death series through Overdrive, but that ship has sailed so I’ll just read them from now on.

Ah Caz at least you have the Kinsale’s at your fingertips to listen too at anytime. Nick Boulton has comforted me numerable times when I feel blue…..thank the universe for digital audios!

The Sister’s of Versailles sounds intriguing!
