Our February 2015 Picks

Which audiobooks are you excited about this month? We’ve chosen a few titles we feel are good bets based on authors, narrators, personal knowledge, reviews of story content – and sometimes, just on gut instinct.

With our Valentine’s Day event and catching up on publication of reviews, we’re a little late with our Picks. But we have plenty to recommend.

Ride the Fire finalRide the Fire – by Pamela Clare

Narrated by Kaleo Griffith

We included this on last month’s list as it was original scheduled to release in January. Melinda and Jessica both chose it as one of their January Picks. It’s the last of the author’s backlist to make it to audio format and I’m completely looking forward to it. She’s one of my favorite historical writers and Kaleo Griffith superbly performs each of her releases – Lea

Kaleo Griffith brings that extra something to all of Pamela Clare’s titles. I have no doubt Ride the Fire will be a success as well – Brenda

I don’t think I need to explain why Ride the Fire is my top pick for January. I love Pamela Clare and Kaleo Griffith together, and Carnal Gift (Book 2 in Blakewell/Kenleigh Family series) was excellent, as usual.  Ride the Fire should be just as good.- Jessica (from January Picks)

Kaleo really “gets” Pamela Clare’s story-telling, and I’m expecting his deep, delicious voice to make this adventure a pleasure! – Melinda  (from January Picks)

Obsession in Death obsession in deathby JD Robb

Narrated by Susan Eriksen.

In Death books are auto pre-orders for me. In this instalment, Eve has a stalker. I bet Roarke is going to get all protective. Be still my heart – Kaetrin

This is always a favorite author/narrator team, and it’s the 40th in the series – Melinda

If you’re an Eve and Roarke fan, you already know you’ll enjoy this one. Adding in Susan Erickson’s (hear them in my head even if I’m reading myself) voices for the main players and you can’t lose – Brenda

andonly to deceive

And Only to Deceive by Tasha Alexander

Narrated by Kate Reading

I’m not familiar with the books in this series, but the words “narrated by Kate Reading” are enough to have me eagerly awaiting this one! – Caz

I’ve heard many favorable comments from members of the Romance Audiobooks Goodreads group about this series, comparing it to the Lady Julia Grey books by Deanna Raybourn. Add in a performance from Kate Reading, I know this book is going to be an enjoyable experience! – Diana

Four Days fourdaysby Dannika Dark

Narrated by Nicole Poole

I’m in love with this series, and the story of the super hot, rival alpha pack leader, Lorenzo, promises to be one of the best! I can’t wait to immerse myself again into the magical combination of Dannika Dark’s writing and Nicole Poole’s narration – BJ

There’s been a lot of buzz about the Seven series – Melinda

For the Love of PeteFor the Love of Pete – Elizabeth Hoyt (Julia Harper)

Narrated by Kathleen McInerney

Elizabeth Hoyt’s contemporary voice is wacky and fun. I’m curious to see if it comes through in audio – Megan

I love Hoyt’s historical voice so I have high hopes for her contemporary writing although Kathleen McInerney is completely new to me. Fingers crossed – Lea

Beyond SunriseBeyond the Sunrise by Mary Balogh

Narrated by Rosalyn Landor

I’ve been thoroughly enjoying Rosalyn Landor’s narrations of Mary Balogh’s on-going Survivor’s Club series, so was delighted to see this new recording of one of Ms Balogh’s backlist titles when it cropped up at Audible. Anything narrated by Ms Landor is pretty much an auto-buy for me anyway, and this is another winning author/narrator combination. Is it too much to hope that we might soon see reissues of Ms Balogh’s Simply series? – Caz

soulbound audio

Soulbound by Kristin Callihan

Narrated by Moira Quirk

I’m a bit behind on this series, but have loved each of the entries I’ve listened to so far. I’m hearing good things about the story, so that, together with Ms Quirk’s fabulous narration, is bound to add up to a great listen – Caz

The Perfect Homecoming sqThe Perfect Homecoming by Julia London

Narrated by Tanya Eby

I’m a big fan of Julia London’s contemporaries and not only is it a new one but ties up two of her series – the Pine River trilogy and the Over the Edge series. Remember Cooper Jessup from Thrillseekers Anonymous? I always wondered why he didn’t get a book but he does here! – Lea

billionaire and the virgin

The Billionaire and the Virgin by Jessica Clare

Narrated by Jillian Macie

This is the first book in Clare’s Billionaires and Bridesmaids series. Ms. Macie is a new-to-me narrator but I liked the sample. I’ve had success with Jessica Clare books before so this was a no-brainer – Kaetrin

The Family WayThe Family Way by Jayne Ann Krentz

Narrated by Laural Merlington

An old favorite of mine from the mid-eighties, it released in abridged format many years ago.The Family Way stands the test of time (for me personally) making me very happy to see the unabridged version. Laurel Merlington narrates some of my favorites back in the day and she fits right in here – Brenda

the master

The Master by Kresley Cole

Narrated by Kimberley Alexis

The Professional blew me away with it’s fantastic mix of the dangerous world of the Russian mob and the fantastic chemistry between the hero and heroine when I read it last year, so I have been looking forward to Book 2 in the Game Maker series for some time now. Again, this is another narrator I’m not familiar with, but based on what I know of the writing, it is definitely one to watch out for – BJ

The Kraken KingThe Kraken King by Meljean Brook

Narrated by Alison Larkin

The fourth in the Iron Sea series that started with The Iron Duke, I know Brook fans will be tuning in for more. I have yet to listen to an Alison Larkin narration but I’ve heard positive things – Lea

the rose red bride

The Rose Red Bride by Claire Delacroix

Narrated by Saskia Maarleveld

I loved this book in print, and I can’t wait to see how it translates into audio. The narrator isn’t someone I’m familiar with, but I’m hoping for something great – Shannon

beautiful beloved

Beautiful Beloved by Christina Lauren

Narrated by Jonathan Cole and Grace Grant

I love all things Beautiful but Sara and Max hold a special place in my heart. To see another glimpse of them, as well as a glimpse of the star of the next Beautiful book in this audiobook is just icing on the cake! Even better is the British accent of Jonathan Cole; talk about YUMMY! – Diana

one night unveiled

One Night Unveiled by Jodi Ellen Malpas

Narrated by Edita Brytcha

Although I am not familiar with Edita Brychta, I have read the first two books in this suspense-filled, sensual trilogy, and am eagerly awaiting the unveiling of all secrets and unraveling of the couple’s fate in the conclusion to this spectacular trilogy – BJ

Hidden StarHidden Star – Nora Roberts

Narrated by Scott Merriman

Now that Brilliance has released Hidden Star (first in the Stars of Mithra trilogy), I’m ready to give narrator Scott Merriman the chance to bump it up a notch from the enjoyable read it was in 1997 – Brenda

not quite a wife audio

Not Quite a Wife by Mary Jo Putney

Narrated by Steven Crossley

One of my favorite historical romance authors being paired with narrator Steven Crossley? Who could ask for anything more? – Shannon

closer than you think

One of Megan’s Picks

I’m not familiar with the author’s work but the suspense angle draws me as well as Tavia Gilbert’s narration – Lea

Bear AttractionBear Attraction – Jennifer Ashley

Narrated by Cris Dukehart

I’ve enjoyed this series – the novella’s are nice in-between book treats. Ms Dukehart has grown as a narrator through the series; now she is the only “voice” for Jennifer Ashley’s Shifters Unbound – Brenda

Last CallLast Call by Alice Clayton

Narrated by Heather Smith

This should be a fun wrap-up to the Cocktail series – Melinda

  1. Great choices–I would also add Broken by Laura Wright/Kaleo Griffith and maybe Cursed by Fire by Jacquelyn Frank–this is a maybe because Xe Sands has narrated many of her titles in the past and she is almost an auto buy for me–this particular title is being done by Roger Wayne who I am unfamiliar with.
