For all those who rarely listen to an audiobook twice, Downpour (Blackstone Audio’s download arm) entered the audiobook rental market this past October (2014). For an average rental cost of $6.95 per title you have 30 to 60 days to listen to your rented download (time allowed depends on the length of the book). The rental timer begins counting down when you first initiate the download on your device or 10 days after purchase, whichever comes first.

As interesting as this announce sounds, rental as it is now is not for me. I’m a Gollum through and through when it comes to books and audiobooks. If I’m going to pay that much for a rental I’d rather wait and purchase the audiobook and call it my preciousss :). Perhaps if rental fees dropped considerably it would be a good way to try new authors and narrators.
