A Beautiful Wedding by Jamie McGuire

A Beautiful WeddingNarrated by Emma Galvin and Zachary Webber

A Beautiful Wedding is listed as Book 2.5 in Jamie McGuire’s Disaster series. Usually, I avoid novellas, but I was intrigued by the synopsis so decided to give this a shot.

Since the book is just over three hours long, it’s pretty hard to summarize without giving too much away. Basically, the point is to answer questions readers might have about Abby and Travis’s marriage. For example, what prompted Abby to propose to Travis? Did anyone else know of their elopement?

As usual, Ms. McGuire tells a good story. However, in the case of A Beautiful Wedding, I felt it was a rather redundant one. Things are told in alternating chapters from both Abby and Travis’s point of view, but they were things I, at least, felt like I already knew. True, they weren’t explicitly spelled out in the previous books, but I had a pretty good idea of the answers.

Narrators Emma Galvin and Zachary Webber did a great job portraying the characters of Abby and Travis. Unlike the previous books, there aren’t a ton of supporting characters to voice. The narrators concentrated on Abby and Travis almost exclusively. Their performance reminded me why I enjoyed the previous installments in this series. Mr. Webber’s slightly gruff but sexy depiction of Travis was exactly what I think of when Travis Maddox comes to mind, and the same can be said for Ms. Galvin’s portrayal of Abby. I felt a little better about Mr. Webber’s portrayal of Abby than I did about Ms. Galvin’s depiction of Travis though. Unfortunately, she wasn’t able to create the deep, masculine sound needed to bring a hero like Travis to life. Mr. Webber, on the other hand, was able to use a slightly higher pitch and a softer tone to depict Abby in a way that sounded realistic and pleasing to my ear.

Would I recommend this book? I suppose that depends what you’re looking for. If you’re looking for answers, give it a listen. If, on the other hand, you feel like Beautiful Disaster and Walking Disaster gave you the complete story, then you might choose something else.
