Wolf at the Door by Christine Warren

Wolf at the DoorNarrated by Kate Reading

There’s nothing like perfectly narrated fluff with a bite of heat when you’re in the mood for a light listen and some laughs. Wolf at the Door, the first in Christine Warren’s The Others series, falls into this category riding primarily on the shoulders of narrator Kate Reading. She transforms this light hearted fated-to-be-mated series (that could be eye rolling in print) into a listening extravaganza with her talent.

In The Other series, basically any “being” that is not human is an Other. In Wolf at the Door, werewolf Sullivan Quinn has come from Ireland to New York with a contingent of Europeans to convince the American Others of the need to reveal themselves to the Human Faction before an enemy does. Cassidy Poe, a rare type of Other and the granddaughter of one of the American Council members, is called upon because of her expertise in cultural anthropology. While Quinn is all for the unveiling of their kind, Cassidy is not. The two are assigned to work together and discover if there really is a need to let the Humans know they exist.

For a listener, this International gathering of the Others translates in to an array of ear tickling accents to enjoy. Not that Ms Reading needs accents to define the large cast of characters with her skill – they’re just an added bonus. She brings out the personalities and attitudes of each character delightfully and her comedic timing never misses. All of this and more keeps me coming back to this title and the series as a whole.
