On the Edge by Ilona Andrews

On the EdgeNarrated by Renee Raudman

The Edge series differs from the Kate Daniels series in a number of ways. First, rather than a continuing story arc over several books in a series, each entry features a different couple. Continuing characters interconnect the books. You still have action galore, astounding monsters, and epic battles but you’re left with an HEA at the end of each tale. Second, The Edge series is set in a distinctly different world with society divided into three sections – both geographically and functionally.

In the Weird, aristocrats rule, magic is normal, and changelings are shunned. The Broken is the world as we know it, complete with Burger King and Wal Mart – there’s no such thing as magic. And the Edge – the area found between the Weird and the Broken. The Edgers use their individual magic talents to pursue love, happiness, and justice for family and for self in this unique setting.

One thing that isn’t different is the superb narration by Renee Raudman. No matter the Andrews’ series you can count on every detail being brought to life by Ms Raudman performance.

In On the Edge, the first in The Edge series, heroine Rose has honed her magical flash to prove herself within the small community. Unfortunately her success backfires making her a target of those wanting to strengthen familial magic or profit from her ability.

After fighting the unscrupulous off since graduation day Rose isn’t about to be swayed by a handsome stranger even if he can vault her pickup. She’s too busy raising her gifted younger brothers while working a job in the Broken in order to keep food on the table.

Having oft stated that Renee Raudman does no wrong in my ears it’s no surprise when I say she breathes life into this vivid world and it’s characters. Yet I have to add her portrayal of Rose and her brothers Georgie and Jack is particularly stellar in this outing.
Declan isn’t the first person from the neighboring magical realm to come looking for the powerful Edger girl raising two young brothers alone. Rose thinks to ignore the attractive blueblood until evil begins stalking the Edge’s citizens. Joining forces to protect her brothers and neighbors she learns Declan’s reason for being in the Edge reaches further than she imagined.
