I listen because:
The Word – It all starts with the author’s imagination, the creation of characters, and the depiction of a story in which the heroes, heroines, villains, and the like can reside and captivate the audience.
The Voice – The narrator next breathes life into the characters, by allowing them to rise off the page, and turning “the word” into pure magic.
The Happily Ever After – No matter the genre, the one facet of romance that I crave the most is the culmination of “the word” and “the voice” into a happily ever after.
And, for me, the combination of the three transcends the boundaries of reality. It simply speaks to my soul.
