  1. Although I’m a little surprised Tantor chose a male to narrate, I’m very pleased as I’m one who prefers a male narration – if they get it right. And as there are few male narrators in romance, it’s all the better.

  2. Tantor has scheduled the first in the I-Team series, Extreme Exposure, for October. The rest of the series will be released in November and December. Love their fast work!

  3. Kaleo and I worked together years ago and its been fun seeing this new part of his career develop.  He is a wonderful guy and I hope he lives up to expectations.*

  4. Thanks for posting this and tweeting about it. I had no idea. I need to find out if there’s someone I can stay in contact with at Tantor. I would actually like to know what’s going on with my series.

I’m off now to listen to examples of his work.

Thanks again! I am SO excited about this. I love audiobooks, and can’t wait to listen to my own. I’m trying to imagine Julian saying, “When you tell your friends about this, be sure to mention the sucky-swirly thing. If you’re going to share details, you might as well be thorough.”

  5. Pamela – you may find this thread from our Romance Audiobooks group over at Goodreads interesting. With your announcement of the audio release of the I-Team series, our members starting speculating about the choice of narrator. Since a Tantor rep stays in contact with our GR group, she told us the selection of Kaleo Griffith once it was made. Tantor sorta spoils us that way which we love!

I then discovered the release dates through Tantor’s Coming Soon feature by month. We often play detective hunting out the details of those upcoming series we are especially excited about.

  6. I hope he isn’t offended by our commenting on his Eye Candy-ness. He’s cute. His video on the IMDB sounds good. Kaleo: resist the urge to place women’s voices in falsetto!! You could create an entire fangrrrrl world around you!

  7. *I’m so excited about this! I tend to love male narrators, especially for books with strong, sexy male leads.  I can’t wait to hear Kaleo. And Melinda is right, resist the falsetto and you’re all set!

  8. *Hello ladies! What a great site. It’s a pleasure to see all of your interest in the I-Team project & thank you for your kind comments.  I’m very excited to breathe life into these rich characters that Pamela Clare has created.

I hope you enjoy listening as much as I will enjoy recording.   Melinda, Carrie: I promise, no falsetto. ;)

    Warm Regards,

    Kaleo Griffith

  9. Alrighty then Kaleo! (may I call you Kaleo?) You have made a solemn promise in writing and we are gonna hold you to it! (I’m imaging the poor guy looking in his dresser mirror, trying different women’s voices, and clearing his throat a lot as he ponders those great quotes Pamela Clare posted in her blog!)

  10. Thanks for the link, Lea. I’m usually the last person to know what’s going on with my books — one of the hazards of living in an alternative reality called “fiction” — so I really appreciate understanding how you found out.

    I really appreciate everyone’s enthusiasm.

Kaleo and I are going to be talking soon about story/pronunciation, and I’m looking forward to this.

I’ve had to read the lines Kaleo is going to be recording at book readings. If I’m with a romance reading audience, they’re appreciated. But I once read the “jiggle stick” scene with a general fiction audience only to look up and see worried looks on people’s faces. :-)

Thanks again for your enthusiasm, everyone. It’s deeply appreciated.

  11. Kaleo – I have a feeling you’ll be hearing much more from romance listeners. :)

Pamela – I can’t wait to hear one (or some) of those readings. Hope you or Kaleo will let us know if there’s one we can listen in on.

  12. I am looking forward to enjoying the I-Team series in audio format.  As soon as Pamela mentioned on FB that Tantor would be producing them and that the narrator was male, I logged into their site and listened to the voices of each of the male narrators.  (I’m NOT a stalker, honest!)  Kaleo has a wonderful voice and I know he will insure that each of the heroes has a distinctive voice, cadence or accent that will set them apart from the others.  I have my fingers crossed that “Skin Deep” will be a future audio book.  While it is not a full length novel, it is a very good story and “Marc and Julian Make a Beer Run” is a hoot!

  13. *Hi Kaleo – we’re all so excited to finally be getting the I-Team series on audio.  A great narrator brings something extra to the story that I don’t think can be found in print, no matter how wonderful the print version is, the performance of it brings an extra dimension.  There have been so many times I’ve heard a narrator say a particular line in a way that I would never have thought of myself but in retrospect is 100% spot on.

And, there’s the “voice in your head” thing too.  When I read a print book, it’s my voice in my head reading along – but when I listen to an audiobook, ever after the narrator’s voice is the one I “hear” when I read/re-read in print.  Audiobook fans will know that when reading the print version of Outlander, we all “hear” Jamie’s delicious Scottish accent as voiced by Davina Porter or when we read an In Death book, we hear Roarke’s Irish lilt as voiced by Susan Ericksen.  And when we read Karen Marie Moning’s Fever series, we all hear Phil Gigante as Barrons.

I’ve read all the I-Team books in print and I’m so looking forward to the listening experience.  Thank you for not minding all our squeeing delight and especially, for making the “no falsetto” promise. :D
